Yasaka New Era

Rubber description:

Yasaka New Era is a non-tensor, standard inverted rubber characterized by a firm sponge and a low throw angle. It is designed primarily for advanced offensive players who possess the technical skill to manage its demanding performance requirements. It is widely regarded for its suitability in backhand-dominant play, particularly for reverse Chinese penhold backhand techniques.

Performance Characteristics

  • Spin and Dwell: The rubber provides high spin potential, performing exceptionally well on topspin and loop shots.
  • Speed and Bounciness: It is not inherently bouncy and lacks significant built-in speed, requiring the player to provide the majority of the power through their own stroke mechanics.
  • Tactical Strengths: Excels in counter-driving, blocking, and controlled loop play. It is notably less effective for smashing and defensive slicing strokes.
  • Control: While it offers precision for advanced users, many players find it difficult to master due to its hardness and specific technique requirements, often leading to a loss of control if the player’s skill level is insufficient.

This rubber was great for practice. Unfortunately, it is now discontinued.

For a while, Ma Lin actually played with this rubber with his backhand and this rubber offers good control and good spin. I tested the 729 Friendship 802-40 on my backhand on a Yinhe Galaxy V10 blade and found that I could generate a lot of spin on serves and loops.

This rubber lacks speed and is not a bouncy sheet. Spin is okay, and control is good. However, blocks are great and counterdrives are amazing.
