Yasaka Rakza X Soft

Rubber description:

The Yasaka Rakza X Soft is a tensor rubber that balances a soft, sensitive feel with a pronounced catapult effect. Designed primarily for players who prioritize ball placement and controlled spin, it excels in backhand play where it allows for consistent flicking, pushing, and lifting of low balls. While it generates significant rotation, its performance is characterized more by ease of use and dwell time than by raw top-end speed.

Playing Characteristics

  • Tactile Feedback: Users report a high level of ball feeling, allowing for precise control during short-game play and technical shots.
  • Spin and Grip: The topsheet provides solid grip for topspin loops and serves, though some users note it lacks a high degree of surface tackiness.
  • Dynamic Response: The rubber features a noticeable catapult effect, which assists in producing power with medium effort, though it can become unpredictable for some players during high-intensity, maximum-effort rallies.
  • Consistency: It is widely regarded as a stable option for blocking and defensive maneuvers, offering a predictable trajectory that aids in placement.

Physical Characteristics

  • Sponge and Weight: Despite the “Soft” designation, perceptions of its hardness vary among users, with some describing it as medium-soft and others noting a mushy or overly soft sensation. A frequent point of discussion is the rubber’s weight, which is often reported as being significantly heavier than other rubbers in the same category.
  • Durability and Maintenance: The sponge is noted to be delicate during the cutting and gluing process, requiring care to avoid tearing. It is a durable choice for regular play, maintaining its playing characteristics over extended periods.

I have liked this rubber so far for my BH as it has great control and makes short games easier, including BH/banana flicks. I am working on increasing my power on my BH as I tend to use it more for defense, so I am not sure yet if the speed of this rubber is good or not. I will update my review later on.

Used for backhand with Yinhe T1S, it produces a lot of spin but lacks control.

Forehand

Forget it - Mushy as mashed potatoes.

Backhand

Actually not the worst, but no speed nor gears. You can flick balls and put them back on the table, but no one will be surprised with your shots. Very predictable rubber. May be suitable for beginners, but I would prefer something with more gears, speed, and spin on BH.
