Butterfly VSG-4000
Blade description:
This all-wood blade is characterized by a hard, stiff feel and a relatively light overall weight. It is designed primarily for close-to-table play and mid-distance offensive maneuvers, favoring hitters and power loopers who rely on a compact, relaxed swing. While the blade performs well with aggressive, hard-sponge rubbers, it requires a degree of technical proficiency to maximize its potential.
Performance and Handling
- Feel and Stiffness: The construction provides a notably hard and stiff response, which facilitates crisp hitting and direct feedback. This makes it effective for off-the-bounce play, flicking, and service execution.
- Weight Distribution: Despite being light, the blade features a head-heavy weight distribution. This balance point enhances arm speed during power loops and provides increased momentum during attacking strokes.
- Technical Considerations: The head-heavy balance results in a higher sweet spot, which may require adjustment for players focused on blocking or defensive styles. Users have noted that the handle designs are smaller than average, which may influence grip comfort.
- Distance Adaptability: While highly effective at the table, the blade’s performance remains consistent at mid-distance. However, when playing from long range, users must exert more physical power to maintain depth and pace, as the blade’s inherent power potential transitions more toward control at greater distances.

This is my first blade. I used Nittaku Narucriss GS Soft on the backhand (BH) and Sriver G3 FX on the forehand (FH). It offers good control and a balanced speed that’s not too fast or too slow. I can topspin the ball with full swing and it lands around the middle of the table, or I can push it to the end of the table. On the BH, it’s easy to flick and topspin the ball within the table.
I believe this blade is suitable for all-round players or offensive players. It’s great for playing at any distance, but for long distances, you’ll need to use some power to push the ball.

This is the first decent blade I have played with. I am still developing my game a lot, so I am still using this blade. I have a Tenergy 05 on my backhand, which is great for blocking and driving, and I have a Roundell on my forehand, which offers really good spin.
The blade is good for flicking and short to mid-distance play and is also very good for serving. As you get further away from the table, the blade sacrifices power and spin for control. All in all, it is a good all-around blade.

Fast, hard, and stiff. Good for aggressive off-the-bounce play, but blocking required significant adjustment and practice. Used with Sriver 2.1, it provided excellent speed and reasonable control.
