DHS Hurricane Hao II

Blade description:

This blade is an all-wood construction that features a soft center wood core, providing a distinct soft touch and a high-trajectory arc suitable for aggressive, spin-oriented play. Designed with a large blade head measuring 16.2×15.2 cm, it offers a high degree of balance and is highly regarded for reverse penhold backhand (RPB) consistency. The blade produces significant power when striking the center of the head, accompanied by a resonant sound, though it requires precise technique to manage its performance characteristics.

Playing Characteristics

  • Feel and Feedback: The combination of the soft core and surface wood allows for deep ball holding, facilitating heavy spin production. While it provides excellent feedback during looping, some users may notice vibrations in the handle during delicate short-game shots like pushes.
  • Speed and Power: Positioned as more powerful than traditional all-wood blades but distinct from composite carbon blades, it demands active input from the player to unlock its full potential. It is not designed for passive blocking, as it rewards offensive, continuous looping rather than reactive play.
  • Weight and Handling: With a weight of 89g, the blade is sensitive to rubber selection. Due to the large surface area, pairing it with heavy rubbers can quickly increase the total setup weight beyond 195g, which may affect maneuverability for some players.

Tactical Suitability

  • Style: Specifically engineered for offensive loopers and modern RPB tactics. Its high trajectory encourages constant looping and aggressive service returns.
  • Consistency: It offers a reliable, consistent feel for those focusing on continuous, high-spin attacks on both wings. It is best suited for physically fit, technical players who prefer a demanding, spin-heavy game over the direct, flat speed offered by composite alternatives.

Probably the top blade for RPB (reverse penhold backhand) play, but it’s only suitable for that specific grip. Using a traditional backhand with this blade is difficult due to its trajectory. It’s not the easiest blade to use, but it’s more powerful than pure wood blades like the OFFENSIVE CLASS (OC) but not as powerful as Arylate-Carbon (ALC) blades. As a result, you can’t use full strength and expect good control like you can with pure wood blades, nor can you rely on passive strokes and the carbon layers like you can with ALC blades.

This blade is designed for RPB, specifically for continuous looping on both wings, as used by Wang Hao. Its sibling, the Hurricane King, is more suited for big, powerful forehand shots, as used by Wang Liqin.

I would recommend this blade for players with very offensive tactics in service receive and attack. It also requires a physically fit player as it demands power to perform well. If you prioritize control, then the YEO blade might be a better option.

Additionally, this blade’s trajectory is relatively high, so you will need to loop most of the time, unless you are very close to the table.

I find it strange that this blade has no reviews.
However, when I check other websites, it is said to be one of the most popular penhold blades.
I’m not sure what the difference is between this blade and the Hurricane Hao 656, but I like this blade.
I asked TT11 to lacquer the blade.
I put Nittaku Fastarc G-1 as forehand rubber
and Victas V01 Stiff as backhand rubber.
I love the control on forehand. You can produce great spins with decent speed.
I have difficulty in short pushes, though this is probably because I need to adjust my technique.
The best part of this blade is the consistency with the backhand. It feels good.
The part I didn’t like is that there are vibrations in the handle when I push the ball short.

This is the most head-heavy blade I’ve ever used!

When brushing the ball, even just with the surface wood, you can generate very heavy spin. When hitting hard, your ball travels incredibly fast.

Additionally, the soft core wood holds the ball well, providing excellent feel and control. It is recommended for loop-oriented players who use high-spin rubbers such as T05 or Hurricane 3-NEO.

Thank you, Tabletennis11, for the discount and free shipping! I’ve never found a better webshop than TT11. You can purchase anything here with confidence, even if it’s your first time.
