Donic Original True Carbon
Blade description:
The Donic Ovtcharov True Carbon is a 3+2 construction composite blade featuring an Aramid Carbon weave. It is widely recognized for its high performance in offensive play, characterized by a crisp, direct feel and a quick response during loops, drives, and counter-spins. While performance can vary across individual units due to manufacturing consistency, the blade is generally categorized in the OFF to OFF+ speed range.
Playing Characteristics
- Speed and Trajectory: The blade offers high-speed capabilities with a relatively flat, low-throw trajectory. Its stiff composition is particularly effective for aggressive offensive play, such as power looping and blocking, though it requires precise technique due to a narrower margin of error compared to some softer, more muted alternatives.
- Feel and Dwell: The Aramid Carbon provides a slightly different feedback profile than standard Arylate Carbon blades. It is generally described as having a direct, crispy contact feel with limited dwell time. Some users report a degree of vibration that offers more feedback than traditional buffered, wood-heavy blades.
- Versatility: Despite its offensive classification, the blade maintains sufficient touch for short-game activities, including net play, pushes, and serves. It is noted for its ability to handle both close-to-the-table exchanges and mid-distance play.
Construction and Handling
- Composition: This is a 3+2 construction blade utilizing Aramid Carbon, which provides a rigid structure and a large sweet spot.
- Handle and Balance: The handle is generally noted as being slightly shorter and slimmer than industry averages, such as those found on many Butterfly blades. Players with larger hands may find an overgrip helpful for comfort. The weight distribution is generally balanced, though some setups may shift the balance slightly toward the head depending on the weight and choice of rubbers.
- Rubber Compatibility: The blade performs well with a wide range of modern offensive rubbers. Medium-to-hard tensioned rubbers (such as those in the Tibhar Evolution MX-P series) are frequently cited as ideal pairings to maximize the blade’s spin and power potential. Soft rubbers are often avoided as they may result in a lack of feedback or sluggish performance due to the blade’s inherent stiffness.

Excellent blade with its own character. It’s very fast, spinny, and powerful.
You’ll need some control to execute slower shots. Blocking is perfect. The feel is slightly smoothed.
It pairs well with Tenergy 19 but performs poorly with Bluestorm Z2.

Some background information first, and I’ll try to keep it short: I won this blade from Anders Lind around 2023 or 2024. Before he got his own model named by Donic, this was what he used. I received the actual blade from him, still with the original Donic rubbers, after he won his first Pro tournament.
It was, and is, a GREAT blade. It plays as well as my Viscaria, maybe even better. My friend was so impressed with it that he ordered one for himself. However, it was NOT the same blade. We were both confused, wondering what happened. Mine had a “click click” sound, while his had a “clunk clunk” sound. It was a totally different feel.
I went on forums and found out that top players either: a) have blades specially made for them, despite being called the same as what regular consumers pay for. So, forget about trying to replicate your favorite player’s setup, as you won’t get the same equipment anyway; or b) they test out 10-20-30 blades of the same model and find the one that stands out, and use that. This is a confirmed fact.
So, I was praising this blade to the skies in reviews, until my friend bought one. If all the regular production blades are like my friend’s, I can’t recommend it. It’s stiff and has no feel. The cheaper Yinhe pro01 or Sanwei 75 inner are better. Or, go for the best if you can afford it: Viscaria.
The Donic rubbers, however, were amazing. Another friend bought those and put them on his Viscaria, and I loved them when I tried his blade.

I bought this blade with MX-P50, which I actually didn’t see many players talking about this combination. For me, it works amazingly! I recommend it! Power, spin, block, and more. Works very well.
