The Nittaku Acoustic is a highly revered 5-ply offensive table tennis blade renowned for its exceptional feel and versatility. With Limba wood outer layers and a composition focused on pure wood, it caters to players who prioritize control and touch without sacrificing speed. Positioned in the offensive category, the Acoustic is perfect for mid-distance looping, making it a favorite among both developing and advanced players who value precision in shot placement over sheer power.
Weighing approximately 85 grams and featuring a thickness of 5.7mm, the Acoustic strikes a balance between lightness and robustness, allowing for swift maneuverability while still feeling substantial in hand. The blade exhibits moderate stiffness (4.3) and hardness (4.9), contributing to its flexibility and enabling a diverse range of playing styles. Its design facilitates impressive spin generation and consistent ball control, making it ideal for looping and offensive play.
Alternatives to the Acoustic include comparable blades like the Butterfly Viscaria or the Stiga Carbonado series, though many players find the Acoustic’s unique blend of touch and responsiveness unmatched. The blade’s aesthetic quality and acoustic feedback further enhance the playing experience, resembling music with every striking sound produced during a rally. While it may carry a premium price tag, the overwhelming feedback from a community of dedicated users reinforces the sentiment that its performance justifies the investment, solidifying its reputation as one of the best all-wood blades available on the market today.
The handle feels comfortable in the short (ST) grip, even for larger hands. The blade has a similar feel to a Stiga. It is a bit slow, but the control is excellent.
Reading previous reviews, I had high expectations for this blade. The build quality is nice, although the handle texture isn’t as soft as other blades I’ve used.
I paired it with a Spinlord Waran on my backhand and a Donic Bluestar PRO on my forehand. The feeling of the blade is great. You can feel the touch of the blade during serves, and the sound it produces is really nice.
However, coming from a carbon-arylate blade (TBS), I feel that my forehand stroke is too slow. I don’t get the same kick I experienced with my previous TBS. Perhaps with a spongier rubber, the forehand will be more balanced.
Fantastic blade. Just try it!
