Blade description:

This 5-ply all-wood blade is widely regarded for its exceptional craftsmanship, premium build quality, and distinct acoustic feedback. Engineered for offensive play, it offers a sophisticated balance of speed and control, making it a popular choice for loop-oriented players who prioritize ball placement and touch over raw, explosive power.

Playing Characteristics

  • Feel and Feedback: The blade is celebrated for its signature “feel,” providing clear, informative vibration that acts as an extension of the player’s hand. It delivers a unique, crisp sound upon contact, often described as resonant.
  • Speed and Power: While categorized as an offensive blade, it is not as fast as typical outer-layer carbon composite blades. It offers a reserve of power that rewards players with sound technique, making it highly effective for close-to-table and mid-distance topspin rallies.
  • Control and Dwell: The blade features medium-to-high dwell time, facilitating excellent spin generation and precise ball placement. It is highly capable in the short game, including pushes, flicks, and touch shots, though it may require adjustments for users transitioning from stiffer, faster carbon blades.

Physical Attributes

  • Construction: 5-ply all-wood construction, typically featuring Limba outer plies.
  • Handle Design: The standard handles are noted for being relatively thin or small, which some players find advantageous for wrist flexibility, while others may prefer adding grip tape or seeking out specific larger-handle versions (often designated as “Large” or “L-size”).
  • Weight Distribution: Generally well-balanced, though some users note a slight head-heavy tendency, which can aid in generating momentum during aggressive looping strokes.

Performance Considerations

The blade performs reliably with a variety of modern tension rubbers. It is particularly recommended for intermediate to advanced players looking to refine their technique or those who prefer the natural, tactile feedback of wood over the stiffer response of composite alternatives. Given its characteristics, it is best suited for two-winged attackers and loopers who prioritize safety, consistency, and accuracy in their shot selection.

The handle feels comfortable in the short (ST) grip, even for larger hands. The blade has a similar feel to a Stiga. It is a bit slow, but the control is excellent.

Reading previous reviews, I had high expectations for this blade. The build quality is nice, although the handle texture isn’t as soft as other blades I’ve used.

I paired it with a Spinlord Waran on my backhand and a Donic Bluestar PRO on my forehand. The feeling of the blade is great. You can feel the touch of the blade during serves, and the sound it produces is really nice.

However, coming from a carbon-arylate blade (TBS), I feel that my forehand stroke is too slow. I don’t get the same kick I experienced with my previous TBS. Perhaps with a spongier rubber, the forehand will be more balanced.
