Nittaku Goriki Super Drive

Blade description:

The Goriki Super Drive is a premium, high-quality wooden blade featuring a 6-ply construction. Its composition utilizes two central layers of vertical Kiso Hinoki, two horizontal Kiso Hinoki layers, and two outer plies of Walnut. This specific architecture creates a blade that is relatively stiff with a weight distribution that some players find slightly heavy, typically reaching around 92 grams.

Playing Characteristics

  • Feel and Feedback: The blade is renowned for providing exceptional, distinct ball feedback. The combination of Hinoki and Walnut materials offers a specialized “feel” that is highly communicative during contact, aiding in precise shot placement.
  • Speed and Power: While the blade is highly capable of generating significant power for smashes and mid-distance attacks, it maintains a controlled, accessible response during slower shots, such as service returns and the short game.
  • Versatility: It excels in a broad range of techniques, including topspin loops, aggressive driving, blocking, and pushing. It provides a balanced performance for both offensive play and defensive maneuvers like chopping, making it a well-rounded tool for versatile players.
  • Compatibility: The blade pairs effectively with a wide variety of rubber types, including both softer Japanese-style rubbers and modern high-tension tension surfaces, allowing for high spin potential and controlled, rhythmic play.

This blade is a marvel of craftsmanship, built with top-tier materials for exceptional performance.

It offers blazing speed with impressive control, perfect for sophisticated players who crave precision.

However, like a Ferrari, it’s not for everyday use; it’s a tool for the connoisseur.

Very good blade. It offers great control, and I’m very happy with it.

I haven’t used a hinoki blade before. I now understand why it’s common to use Japanese-style rubbers.

These softer rubbers really come alive with this blade, offering amazing speed and control. I can do it all with my setup: loop, flat hits, chop, counter, etc. I use Fastarc P-1 on the forehand and G-1 on the backhand.
