Nittaku Septear Feel Inner

Blade description:

The Nittaku Septear Feel Inner is a composite blade featuring a 5+2 construction. It incorporates Kiso Hinoki layers, which contribute to a unique, soft feel that many users compare to the playing characteristics of an all-wood blade. The blade is designed for players seeking to transition from traditional 5-ply wooden blades to a carbon-fiber setup without sacrificing dwell time or spin potential.

Playing Characteristics

  • Feel and Dwell: The blade is characterized by a soft, dampened touch. Due to its inner-carbon composition, it provides significant dwell time, allowing for effective spin production during looping and touch shots.
  • Speed and Gears: It functions as a medium-fast blade with a non-linear reaction; it maintains controlled speed during slow to medium-intensity shots but provides additional power when engaged with forceful strokes.
  • Trajectory: The blade typically produces a medium to high arc, resulting in a longer ball trajectory.
  • Balance and Construction: The build quality is noted for being high-end and well-balanced. The handle design is slightly longer and thinner than standard, which helps prevent a head-heavy feel when paired with modern rubbers.

Suitability

This blade is well-suited for offensive and all-around styles that prioritize control and spin. It performs effectively with a wide range of rubbers, though it is often recommended to pair it with medium-hard or hard-sponged rubbers to maximize the benefits of the inner-carbon core. While it is often compared to other professional-grade inner-carbon blades, its specific combination of Kiso Hinoki and carbon layers creates a distinct playing experience that balances stability with a touch-sensitive response.

I’ve been using this blade for 8 months and the finish and craftsmanship are excellent. It’s well balanced, and the handle is a bit longer and thinner. It has some weight to it, preventing it from becoming too head-heavy with rubbers.

The blade feels soft and offers great control for touch shots, pushes, and slow to medium shots. It feels like an all-wood blade. On fast and powerful shots, the carbon layers activate, giving you those extra gears to finish the point. The trajectory of the ball is long with a medium arc, and it pairs well with medium-hard or hard rubbers.

Initially, I used Rakza Z on the forehand and Rakza X on the backhand. It paired very well with Rakza Z, but with Rakza X, once the rubber lost its grip, the trajectory was too flat and long. Now, I am using Hammond Z2 on the forehand and Fastarc G1 on the backhand, and it pairs really well.

This is a very high-quality blade with great control, feeling, dwell time, and more than enough speed and power to win points. I got mine from TableTennis11.com for only 68 euros. To put it in perspective, the Butterfly Innerforce ALC costs about 150 euros.

The sound of the blade is very interesting. It’s easy to control the ball, and I combined it with Flyatt Spin rubbers for both forehand and backhand.

This blade creates spin wonderfully.

A blade that personally disappointed me.

Nittaku has always accustomed me to excellent products, but this one fell short of expectations. It doesn’t generate much spin and felt very flat.

Both in control and during attacks, it wasn’t convincing at all.
