Tibhar CO-S-3 Defence ST
Blade description:
Structural Composition
This is an all-wood defensive blade featuring a classic 3-ply construction. Utilizing soft wood veneers, the architecture is designed specifically to favor dwell time and touch over raw speed. Its design is considered a rarity in the modern market, prioritizing a specialized defensive profile that remains consistent across manufacturing batches.
Playing Characteristics
The blade is characterized by its significant “slow” speed, which allows players to deaden the pace of incoming balls, making it highly effective for close-to-the-table blocking and short-game precision. Despite its low speed, it offers a soft, high-quality feel that provides clear feedback during contact. While primary utility is found in defensive chops and secure push-blocking, the blade maintains enough versatility for controlled, occasional offensive shots when paired with appropriate attacking rubbers.
Tactical Performance
The blade excels in stability and accuracy, particularly when used with long pips for chop-block style play or classic defensive strategies. Users report that it offers a high level of control, allowing for precise ball placement and effective management of heavy incoming spin. The weight distribution is noted as well-balanced, facilitating comfortable handling and easy manipulation of the blade for twiddling. While the low speed may require a faster rubber on the forehand to generate finishing power, the blade’s inherent dampening qualities make it a reliable tool for players focusing on defensive consistency and tactical disruption.

This blade fits my game the best. It has amazing control, excellent undercut, and a proper rubber combination. The price/quality ratio is unbeatable.

Works well with Grass D. TecS for a chop block style of play. Needs a fast forehand rubber to hit kill shots; otherwise, it is too slow.

It’s a pretty classic defensive blade that gives you enough feedback with every shot you play. It has good feel and control. It’s slow enough for controlled defensive shots but not too slow at the same time.
I’m using 563-1 (1.5mm) medium pips on the FH and my flat hits and counter drives are quite fast but still precise enough to place the ball where I want. It’s good for blocking loops.
The straight handle is quite comfortable and makes it easier to twiddle. With this blade I can do BH chops with pretty high stability and accuracy from mid-distance, although I’d say that you’d need a reasonably slow defensive rubber for that.
The blade is not expensive. It’s a great choice for a defensive player who likes to attack from time to time.
