Yasaka Ma Lin Extra Special
Blade description:
This is an all-wood 7-ply offensive blade featuring a walnut outer ply. Known for its balance of power and touch, the blade is characterized by a high-quality build with a large, consistent sweet spot. It offers a firm, crispy feel that provides good feedback, while the construction allows for significant dwell time, making it effective for both heavy spin loops and direct, aggressive hitting.
Performance and Handling
- Playing Characteristics: The blade sits in the OFF to OFF+ range, providing ample speed for mid-to-far distance play while maintaining precision for short-game control, blocking, and pushes.
- Flexibility and Feel: Despite its solid 7-ply construction, the blade exhibits a moderate degree of flexibility. The walnut outer layer creates a distinct feel that helps players generate high spin arcs and stable, controlled trajectories.
- Weight and Balance: While individual experiences with weight distribution can vary, it is generally noted for being lightweight and manageable. Some users report a slightly head-heavy balance, which can assist in generating momentum during aggressive strokes.
Equipment Compatibility
- Rubber Pairing: The blade is versatile, performing well with a wide range of rubber types. While it pairs effectively with tensor and soft-to-medium tension rubbers to maximize the flight arc, it also handles harder, faster rubbers and short pips with ease due to its reliable dwell time and structural stability.
- Use Cases: It is highly regarded by players who prioritize the tactile feedback of an all-wood construction over composite blades. It is well-suited for offensive styles that rely on looping and counter-attacking, offering enough stability to handle incoming high-speed shots without sacrificing control.

Good blade, but the speed is 8.5, not 9.1.

Excellent for attacking, this classic blade offers high control even when hitting in different areas of the racket. The quality of manufacture is high, and the blade is durable enough to withstand contact with the table.
To maximize the arc of the ball’s trajectory, it’s best to pair this blade with soft or medium-soft rubbers; tensor rubbers would be even better. This blade is ideally suited for play in the first and second zones. From the third zone, you’ll need a very fast rubber or significant effort to generate sufficient power.
I personally paired this blade with the new versions of Loki Kirin K3 and Loki Kirin K5 rubbers.
