Andro Hexer Powersponge
Rubber description:
The Andro Hexer Powersponge is a tensor rubber characterized by a notably soft sponge, designed to provide high levels of control and a distinct, loud sound during impact. It is widely regarded as a balanced, “do-it-all” rubber that excels in close-to-the-table play, making it a popular choice for backhand applications and for players seeking to transition into more advanced tensor technology.
Performance Characteristics
- Spin and Speed: The rubber offers consistent topspin capabilities, particularly for opening loops and counter-looping. While it provides sufficient speed for offensive play, it is not categorized as an extreme speed rubber and may lack top-end power when playing far from the table.
- Control and Dwell: The soft sponge facilitates a longer dwell time, which contributes to its high control rating and ease of use in the short game. It is particularly effective for blocking, where it provides a stable and consistent platform for returning incoming attacks.
- Physical Properties: The rubber is known for being relatively lightweight compared to other models in the Hexer series. Users should note that the sponge can be delicate, requiring care when removing the rubber from a blade to prevent potential tearing.
Ideal Use Cases
- Skill Level: Highly recommended for intermediate players and those transitioning into higher-level equipment. It is generally considered a forgiving rubber that rewards technical accuracy.
- Setup Compatibility: It pairs effectively with a variety of blades, ranging from all-round (ALL/ALL+) to offensive synthetic fiber blades. It is frequently highlighted as an excellent backhand rubber for players who prioritize blocking and consistent, controlled offensive strokes over pure, high-velocity power.

I believe this rubber is underrated!
Facts:
- Red rubber, 1.7 mm thickness
- Packed weight: 86 g, uncut: 58 g, cut (156 x 150 mm): 41 g
- Yellow sponge, specified as 35 degrees soft
- Overall hardness: 48.8 degrees due to tight topsheet
Comparing older rubbers with current popular ones is intriguing. Most reviews from 2010-2011 may not hold relevance today. I tested this rubber on various offensive synthetic fiber blades (mostly stiff and hard with minimal vibration). On my preferred Stuor Nobilis ZLC blade, I paired it with an Andro Hexer Powergrip SFX in 1.7 mm (42.5 degrees sponge) on my forehand.
Comparison to Hexer Powersponge:
The Hexer Powersponge lacks the spin potential and speed of this rubber but excels for my backhand. It enables effortless return of serves over the table due to its ball-wrapping ability. It offers above-average spin, consistent control, and adequate catapult and speed.
Conclusion:
The Hexer Powersponge has proven its continued relevance in the market.

Almost as slow as a classical rubber (Mark V) and comparable spin, but heavier. I tried to use it on FH and it is clearly worse than Vega Europe. It may work on the BH, but there are many alternatives such as Vega Europe that are not worse in any respect and have better spin.

Good rubber.
