Butterfly Tackiness Chop 2

Rubber description:

This rubber is a sticky defensive sheet designed primarily for classical chopping and controlled short-game play. It features a firmer sponge compared to the original Tackiness Chop, which contributes to a more direct feel and enhanced spin potential. It is particularly effective for generating heavy backspin on defensive strokes and serves, allowing players to manipulate spin with high precision.

Playing Characteristics

  • Spin Potential: Highly capable of producing heavy, sharp backspin. It is recognized for its ability to generate significant spin in the short game and on deep, controlled chops.
  • Speed and Dwell: Generally categorized as a slower rubber. While it offers sufficient pace for flat hitting and blocking when paired with an appropriate blade, it is not designed for high-speed looping or modern offensive play.
  • Control: Offers high levels of control, making it well-suited for defensive players who prioritize placement and error reduction. The rubber facilitates a flatter, more penetrating chop trajectory compared to its predecessor.
  • Surface and Durability: The surface possesses tackiness, though user experiences regarding the longevity of this grip vary. While it is stable for consistent practice, the tackiness may diminish over extended periods of heavy use.

Tactical Suitability

This rubber is ideally suited for classical defensive styles or all-round players who prioritize chopping and tactical placement over power loops. It performs best on defensive or all-round blades, where its defensive strengths—specifically heavy pushing and chopping—are maximized. It is less effective for modern offensive looping, as the sponge and topsheet configuration lack the necessary speed and catapult effect for aggressive, high-speed topspin attacks.

I have used this rubber in both 1.5 mm and 1.7 mm thicknesses. Overall, the rubber offers excellent control, minimizing unforced errors during short-game play and while chopping from a distance. It is a highly effective defensive rubber.

However, this rubber lacks attacking capabilities. While it performs adequately in counter-looping and provides excellent backspin, it falls short in generating sufficient spin for looping. Therefore, I recommend this rubber exclusively for defensive players.

I believe Tackiness Chop 2 is superior to Tackiness Chop. It excels at producing sharp chops and delivering spiny serves. Additionally, it performs well when chopping from a distance and counterattacking heavy spins. I highly recommend this rubber for modern defenders.

This rubber makes it very easy to execute a flatter yet spinnier chop compared to Tack Chop 1. The ball tends to fly upward and then dip onto the table, whether using a 1.1 mm or even a 1.9 mm sponge.

Additionally, I found that it offers more control than the original version. However, this increased control may be attributed to the fact that I tested it on the Butterfly Defense Alpha, which is a very soft blade.
