What Donic says about their own rubber is so true: It is a feel-good, do-all topspin rubber. I use it on my backhand, and it allows me to do everything. It is not too heavy (43-44g, 2.0mm), gives good spin (not great spin), and my backhand topspins fall down on the table if I brush the ball. Flat hits are also very good because of the medium or maybe medium-low throw angle. Certainly, pros won’t be satisfied with it, but for an average Joe like me, this is one of the best there is for backhand play.

I have been using this rubber for a year in 2.0 mm red version on forehand, paired with Donic Epox Powerallround blade. I bought it for 40 euros.

It is relatively fast, not superfast, but fast, a bit slower than rubbers from Tenergy series. Also, considering its speed, this rubber has pretty good control, but the user has to be careful with his stroke adjustment and footwork, otherwise overthrows on clear smashing strokes and blocks, with uncontrolled long flat balls can often occur.

It is not so spinny as Tenergy, but enough spinny for a player with average amateur technique, especially on opening loops and flicks, even against heavy incoming backspin, but when the rubber starts wearing out, logically this good characteristics of the rubber become much weaker.

It has a medium throw angle (on the lower half), which is adequate for every stroke near and on medium distance from the table, but not far from it. The rubber is slightly bouncy on backspin strokes and pushes, and the adequate execution of those strokes need more attention, but it also depends on individual playing technique.

Compared to Acuda Blue P3, Acuda Blue P2 has higher throw angle and is better on offensive strokes, like smashes and top spins, but the Acuda Blue P3 is better for serves, pushes and precise blocks.

Overall, the Donic Acuda Blue P2 is a good choice for offensively oriented all-round players, who are not professionals, but advanced amateurs.

I bought this rubber and put it on a 5-ply wooden paddle just for a test and I haven’t stopped using it. I read all the reviews from others and just wondered if it was as good as many have said.

Ok, let me say I bought red 2.0 for my forehand and anti-power black Yasaki 1.5 for my backhand, and this is an unbeatable tandem for who I play with at my ping-pong club. I’m not trying to sell this to you, but the control and spin, and when I need the speed, is everything I need.

I just wanted to try this, now I can’t stop using it. If you need control, speed, and great “popping” spin, try it yourself. I love it!

It’s a very good rubber, not very tacky but can generate a lot of spin and speed. Control is just good and I think it fits better in the forehand of hard blades. I had some problems using it in my backhand. Blocking is also easy with this rubber. I recommend it for players who like to generate spin with an active blocking game. It’s not so good for smashes.

I am using this in 2.0 red on my backhand.

NEGATIVES
This rubber was and still is grossly overrated on spin. It is a spinny rubber compared to a large portion of rubbers that is out there, but the topsheet is not superbly grippy. Hence this is NOT a rubber for brush loops. The ball will simply slip and fall down. You need to engage the sponge to generate decent spin.

It is very challenging to lift moderate to heavy backspin; even off the table that’s very straining. You really have to rip through with your whole arm while then you have to make sure the ball doesn’t fly off the end of the table. The lowish medium throw does its part in that equation. If I do the same strokes with my Hurricane 3 NEO, the ball just shoots off vertically into the roof. This rubber has crippled my game in the sense of opening backspin and my opponents frequently lock me down in my backhand.

POSITIVES
This rubber has outstanding control. It’s difficult to stress enough the feeling of safety this rubber grants you. It is also fairly unreceptive to incoming spin. The medium (maybe even medium to low) throw angle just brings the ball back onto the other side of the table with ease.
Blocking: Passive blocking is great even against heavy rotation topspins that come in crushing on your side of the table, you just have to close the bat angle a little bit and this rubber provides very flat and annoying blocks. Active blocking is equally great.
Driving/Smashing: Extremely reliable, feels very linear. Nothing funny ever happens. Just hold the bat at the right angle and swing away. Of course it lacks speed, but you know, you can always just swing a little harder. When drive-looping you also develop some decent spin, because you’re engaging the sponge more.
The catapult is not strong, but it is easy to activate even with your backhand. Due to the softness of the composition of the P2, you don’t have to hit hard to get some potential out of this rubber.

Awesome for backhand.
Speed and spin are okay.

#10 — February 2017

This rubber provides extra grip and spin. It is an awesome forehand rubber.

#11 — January 2017

This is a very good rubber with high spin and speed. It is a great choice for offensive players.

Overall, this rubber is a good choice for players who are looking for a high-performance rubber that can help them to generate a lot of spin and speed.

#12 — January 2017

This rubber is an absolute marvel. It excels in both active and passive blocks, and its close and middle distance topspin and looping capabilities are exceptional. The spin it generates on forehand loops is truly remarkable.

I highly recommend this rubber over other tensors or built-in speed glue effect rubbers. I use the red at 2.0 with Yasaka Sweden Extra (an all-wood, 5-ply all+) and find it to be a superior choice.

While chops are possible with good technique, the rubber is better suited to a spin-based offensive all-round technique. If you pair it with a fast and stiff blade like the BTY TB ALC, you can expect it to perform exceptionally well, providing you with great feel and an impressive sound.

The high quality of this rubber is evident in its beautiful blue porous sponge, which remains grippy even after extensive use. It will allow you to play at the top of your game, whether you prefer an all-round or all-round offensive style. The optimal thickness will depend on your average distance from the table and your ability to execute counter-topspins. However, thicknesses below 2mm may limit your ability to counter from a distance due to insufficient dwell time.

I tested the rubber after hearing good reviews about it. However, if you play away from the table, this is not the rubber for you.

Despite the significant spin it generates, I had difficulty hitting consistent loop drives from a distance. My partner experienced the same issue when I let him try my paddle.

The presence of tensors in the rubber creates a nonlinear feeling. As a result, the ball would unexpectedly fly farther than anticipated during counter loops if you weren’t paying attention.

If you prefer a more linear rubber, I recommend the Andro Rasant Grip rubber instead. It has tensors but offers more control while providing the same amount of spin and speed as the Donic Acuda Blue P2.

Review text:

The soft top sheet with some medium sponge is a great combination. Every time I do a fast loop, I feel the rubber bite the ball and create massive spin. The sound is a distinct TOK! plus TAK!. It’s easy to loop with this rubber, making it a great choice for beginners and even intermediate players. You’ll have fun practicing your loop strokes with this rubber.

Feels good to play with, providing nice prolonged contact. High spin is generated, however, it is not so fast and can be a bit hard to control. When trying to add additional power, the ball can be thrown too high and out of the table. As such, it can be challenging to score points with power backhands, but the spin does help a lot if you sacrifice on power, which is why I preferred it for forehand.

Though it was still too slow for my forehand, I think it plays better there because it is more manageable. However, I don’t think it is worth the price, as there are better options out there. It may be suitable for casual players rather than advanced players, depending on their level.

#16 — October 2016

Such control, immense spin, so much grip, better than Tenergy 80.

#17 — September 2016

I have been searching for a rubber to be used on my FH and tried one after reading some reviews. I thought that it could not be as fast as the statistics indicated, but I was proven wrong.

The rubber generates a tremendous amount of power. It surprised me as the sponge hardness is only medium. The sound of the ball striking the rubber is pleasant to the ear and the speed glue effect is highly effective.

In terms of spin, I have noticed that my opponents face significant challenges in returning my topspins. The combination of abundant spin and speed glue effect allows me to execute highly difficult topspins. For instance, when receiving a ball just above the playing surface, I can return it with a topspin that soars 3-4 feet above the net. Blocking my topspins is difficult, even if executed with near perfection. It takes time to master blocking against this rubber.

I primarily use this rubber for attacking rather than blocking, but it is essential to develop blocking skills as well. It takes some time to fully realize the potential of this rubber. I pair it with a Tibhar Off blade and Tenergy 05 on my BH.

#18 — July 2016

Very good rubber for attacking topspin backhand. It gives a lot of accelerating spin. At the same time, I am able to control blocking normally and with backspin.

I use this as a blocking backhand and counter-hit. I think it is the best rubber for blockers and attacking ones.

Bluefire JP and Acuda were both good, but this product combines the best of both worlds, creating a superior combo. While the JP series wasn’t as popular as the M series due to its quick-wearing topsheet, this rubber marks a reboot for the line.

The sponge remains the same as the JP series, while the topsheet resembles the Acuda series. Having tested it on both sides of my paddle, I was thoroughly impressed. Compared to the M2, it offers a higher throw, better speed, and incredible spin.

Unlike Tenergy, this rubber isn’t as sensitive to incoming spin, resulting in a slightly lower bounce, while maintaining the same speed. The control and drops are flatter, but they still reach the table without hitting the net.

Overall, if you’re looking to upgrade from Bluefire JP, or you want a more aggressive option than Bluefire M, or even a rubber with more spin, speed, and control than Acuda, this is the perfect choice.

UPDATE

After further play, I’ve noticed some drawbacks with this rubber. The surface wears out prematurely, within 20 hours of play. It also lacks the power needed on an OFF blade for effective mid-distance counterlooping, regardless of boosting.

The spin sensitivity proved to be a hindrance during counterlooping, as I struggled to adjust, resulting in many shots landing too long or too short. This consistency issue disappeared when I switched to M2 on my forehand. Consequently, I’ve reverted back to my former setup with MX-P.

For backhand, this rubber performs well, but for forehand, I recommend the harder P1.

UPDATE: CATAPULT EFFECT

The primary issue lies in the rubber’s CATAPULT effect, which is non-linear and bottoms out rapidly. To maximize its effectiveness, use it with a pure wood paddle rated ALL-OFF tempo, and adopt an aggressive looping style with strategic point setups, as powerful shots are difficult to execute with this rubber.

Pretty impressed with this rubber. It has a soft sponge and a soft topsheet, noticeably thinner than most. Its low weight is a result of this. The 2.0 sheets in black and red were 60g and 62g, respectively.

Although it is reviewed with a little over-emphasis on speed, it is not a high-end speed rubber. However, it does have plenty if you put enough into your stroke. It does produce a very high amount of spin, so opponents need a moment to adjust to that level of spin.

Besides the high spin, it is very controllable thanks to a medium to low throw angle. High spin and the throw angle result in balls that tend to dip earlier on the table. You will have to adjust if you want to hit deeper shots. It has a good, solid grip on the ball.

Fantastic! Best ever!

I’ve used Acuda S1 S2 S3, Blufire M2 and M1, and Barracuda. And Mark V.

But this rubber is the best. Enough speed, good control, amazing spin!

The speed is similar to Acuda S1, but with much more control and equal or more spin.

I use this rubber on the drive and backhand with Acuda S1. I will not change any more. These are MY RUBBERS FROM NOW.

#22 — March 2016

This rubber weighs 45 grams after cutting. It is excellent for generating spin. However, it is not too fast for my playing style.

#23 — February 2016

I took it for a first try on my backhand yesterday. It has incredible control and a very good, soft-ish topsheet that allows very good, very spinny serves (I serve on my backhand). Blocks are good, and you get good feedback from your blade on active blocks. Pushes and touch shots are incredible, very controlled, and with the grippy topsheet, you can even chop effectively at low speeds.

Even the sponge feels soft at low speeds, allowing you to do the extra spinny backhand-topspin-flip serve return that can throw your opponent off.

As you start hitting harder, the sponge starts working and it feels a bit harder and with extra catapult, allowing you to get to the extra speed you need. At higher speeds, even topspin go deeper and bite harder. The big advantage is that you can easily access that higher speed even with your backhand, but it’s that well balanced that it won’t bother you on pushes.

To me, this rubber is something between the Acuda S2 and the Xiom Vega Europe, but with an extra higher gear that none of them have. The throw is lower than Acuda S2 but a bit higher than the soft Vega Europe.

Great rubber from Donic and a good replacement for the Acuda S2.

This rubber is for my backhand. It offers excellent control, and the spin is also very good.

#25 — September 2015

Playing with 2.0 thickness provides more spin than T64 and is slightly faster. Serves have a greater spin with the same techniques, but my service return was unaffected. Looped balls arc a little higher; however, this is a tradeoff if you desire low arc fast drives. Blocks have a slightly increased likelihood of going off the table than T64 but can be rectified with adjustments. Punch blocks lack precision and effectiveness compared to T64. The ball dwell on the rubber is quite similar to T64. Overall, an excellent rubber.

#26 — July 2015

I have used the new Donic rubber for a few hours on my forehand, paired with an Andro Temper Tech All+ blade and 2.0 rubber thickness.

First Impressions:

The rubber is impressive, generating a high amount of spin comparable to that of the Adidas P7 and Rakza 7 (including the Rakza7soft variant). The throw is relatively flat, initially making it somewhat challenging to curve the ball over the net. However, after adjusting the angle slightly, I discovered that blocking and executing underspin touch plays with this rubber is effortless. Topspins are excellent, with a high degree of control.

The rubber has a light and medium-soft feel that I find appealing. It is not mushy and provides a good grip. Additionally, the bounce from the table is low.

These are my initial impressions, and I am very satisfied with the rubber thus far. I will provide further updates after extended use.

After using the Acuda S2 2mm, I ordered the Acuda P2 2,0mm at SportEurope.nl. I feel the same amount of control, which I like very much at the S2, and the speed is a tad faster. Also, opening spin is a bit faster. Countering feels the same, as well as blocking, but the sponge sounds louder. The tensor sponge is more difficult to glue with water-based glue, as it curls a lot more than the S2. Anyway, after 2 days, I am pretty happy and will continue to use the P2 instead of the S2.

#28 — Long Time Ago...

I got back to table tennis after approximately 17 years of hiatus. Prior to that, I was playing at a professional level.

I must admit that it was quite a shock that new/different balls are in play, and with that, all the technology changed so that fresh gluing is basically redundant. My dad is still a coach, so he helped me out and put together a blade that I currently play with, but it is becoming a bit slow already. It’s an OSP Expert with Donic Acuda Blue P2.

Firstly, I have to admit that when I saw what I got, I was a bit skeptical. I was always a Butterfly player, but I was still anxious to try what I got, and I was fairly surprised. My game was always about rotation, spin, and playing with the ball, and this rubber did allow me that. I was able to produce insane amounts of rotation—serve, wrist motions only, lots of rotation, great control. Forehand spin is amazing. When I got secure with the stroke, I was able to place the ball anywhere on the table with insane amounts of spin.

On backhand, the rubber offered a lot of control, a nice feeling, and was able to block nicely. The rubber is also quite nice for power strokes, but the launch angle is more suitable for spin play. Still, it doesn’t bite if you smack the ball a few times.
