Donic J.O. Waldner

Rubber description:

This rubber is categorized as a tensor. It is widely recognized for its high durability and consistent performance, serving as a versatile option for both forehand and backhand play. It functions effectively without the need for speed glue, though its performance characteristics can be further enhanced when used in conjunction with it.

Playing Characteristics

  • Speed and Spin: The rubber offers a noticeable increase in speed and spin potential compared to traditional classic rubbers like Sriver. It features multiple “gears,” allowing players to adjust the output based on the intensity of the stroke.
  • Feel and Dwell: It is not characterized as a soft, high-dwell rubber. Instead, it provides a more direct, firm feel that prioritizes accuracy and consistency over extreme sponge deformation.
  • Control and Versatility: Despite the increase in speed, it maintains a high degree of control, making it well-suited for blocking and serving. The consistency of the rubber allows for precise, accurate strokes, particularly on the backhand side, where it is frequently favored by users.

Donic J.O. Waldner, I will miss you. Although you are no longer for sale, I cherished using you on both wings, with and without glue.

What is your new equivalent from Donic?

Damn good rubber! It is excellent for the backhand. Additionally, it is not very expensive and lasts a long time.

I played with the Yasaka Mark V for a while, but a couple of years ago, I tried the J-O Waldner rubber with 1.8 mm on the backhand and 2.0 mm on the forehand, paired with a J-O Senso V1 blade.

I like the J-O Waldner rubber better, and I notice that my games have been improving. Particularly, my backhand strokes are more accurate, and I believe the rubber offers many gears that I can utilize in my strokes.
