Nittaku Moristo SP

Rubber description:

This rubber is a high-performance, short pimples option designed primarily for offensive playstyles. It is well-regarded for its versatility, allowing players to execute a wide range of shots including aggressive punch blocks, flat smashes, and spin-oriented drives. While it lacks the extreme, automatic deception found in some defensive pips, it provides sufficient wobble to disrupt an opponent’s rhythm, especially during fast, early-timing attacks on the rise.

Performance Characteristics

  • Spin and Control: Unlike many traditional short pips, this rubber is noted for being relatively spinny, allowing players to produce top-spin loops and service variations. While it remains sensitive to incoming spin, it offers a more manageable learning curve compared to inverted rubbers when receiving serves.
  • Speed and Dwell: The rubber features a responsive sponge that facilitates fast, crisp contact. It excels when taking the ball at the top of the bounce. Players report that it performs consistently in a “punching” style, though speed and control feel can vary significantly based on sponge thickness; thinner sponges tend to favor controlled attack, while thicker options maximize speed.
  • Playing Style: It is particularly effective for close-to-the-table play. It supports an aggressive backhand strategy, enabling players to flip short balls and transition quickly into powerful, flat counter-attacks. Because it offers a balanced blend of speed and technical control, it is a popular choice for players looking to transition into a modern, pips-out offensive game.

Plays alright but not quite up to par as a pimple-in rubber. Excellent for backhand punches with a little ball wobble that adds to the fun.

Plays like inverted rubber on spinning strokes engaging the sponge. Excellent at punching with a notable wobble which disrupts opponents’ rhythm and they don’t like it. Requires a lot of practice to take advantage of, especially when coming from inverted rubber. Will recommend.

I was using Spinfire and decided to try this one because if Mima Ito uses it, it must be a good one. In terms of grip, it’s quite grippy and I could do kicker serves and other spinny serves, but I found that sometimes the ball died on the net. I had been using short pimples only for 2 months, so my technique was lackluster. I am sure that in good hands it’s a fast and dangerous weapon.
