Nittaku Renanos Hold

Rubber description:

This item is a hybrid rubber featuring a firm, grippy natural gum topsheet paired with a hard sponge. It is characterized by its linear response, providing a consistent feel that avoids the unpredictable catapult effect found in many modern soft tensors. Designed for players who prioritize control and mechanical spin, the rubber offers a versatile performance that bridges the gap between traditional Japanese and Chinese playing styles.

Performance Characteristics

  • Spin and Speed: The rubber is highly regarded for its spin potential, particularly on serves and brushing loops, where it mimics the biting capabilities of Chinese-style rubbers. While not as bouncy as high-tension alternatives, it maintains substantial speed reserves when the player engages the sponge with hard, aggressive strokes.
  • Control and Dwell: The firm topsheet provides excellent feedback, resulting in a predictable and stable short game. It performs reliably during blocking and pushing, allowing for high accuracy. Because the ball does not sink deeply into the topsheet on lighter touches, it offers a distinct, controlled feel that is less reactive to incoming spin than softer, more porous sponges.
  • Tactile Feedback: The rubber is noted for its durability and consistent performance over time. While the surface is naturally grippy, some players utilize protective sheets to maintain or enhance surface tackiness. Its performance is best suited for offensive looping and tactical all-around play, offering a balance of power and precision for players who prefer a non-catapult, direct feeling.

I put a tacky protect-sheet on it, which made the rubber even tackier. I put it on after every practice and training session. I have done so with Magna TX2 and Renanos Hold. It works great if you want to add some tackiness to a non-tacky rubber. My 5-year-old Nittaku Renanos now has better spin than when it was new, I kid you not!

Speed is average.

This sponge is hard, and the topsheet is firm. The ball does not sink into the topsheet, which has little grip. The throw angle is medium-low, so this rubber is good for flat hits and not good for looping.

Also, for short underspin rallies, it is very hard to get any spin, and the opponent can easily attack these balls.

Response is linear.

Spin! Serves and loops, cuts, topspin. This rubber is all about spin, but it also has the necessary speed. It has an incredible long lifetime. Nittaku equals quality as always. It is an expensive rubber, but it is totally worth it.
