Stiga Neos Tacky

Rubber description:

The NEOS Tacky is a sticky rubber characterized by its high level of control and precision. It is best suited for defensive players and allrounders who prioritize placement and tactical play over raw speed. The rubber offers a high throw angle, allowing for effective topspin loops and controlled counter-attacks, particularly when used on the backhand side for blocking and redirecting incoming spin.

Playing Characteristics

  • Spin and Grip: The surface is naturally grippy, capable of producing heavy spin when clean contact is made. However, it remains sensitive to the spin of incoming balls, which requires precise technique during service returns and defensive rallies.
  • Speed and Dwell: The rubber provides moderate, controllable speed. Because it is not overly bouncy, players may need to exert more physical effort to generate significant pace during aggressive topspin attacks or when lifting heavy underspin.
  • Durability and Construction: The sponge is notably soft, contributing to a comfortable feel. However, users report concerns regarding long-term durability; the surface tackiness tends to diminish over time, and the edges are prone to fraying or perishing with regular use.

Tactical Utility

This rubber excels in a controlled game, making it highly effective for blocking and placing the ball with accuracy. While it can facilitate topspin development, it is generally considered too slow for players focusing on aggressive, high-speed forehand offense unless paired with a faster, stiffer blade. It is a suitable choice for those looking for a consistent, spin-oriented rubber for backhand tactical play.

Best spin for its weight, but very un-bouncy and brittle. May work fine on a faster blade.

The rubber has good control and precision, so I was able to loop a ball on my backhand that bounced twice on my opponent’s side of the table. However, this rubber has one main problem: it is very sensitive to spin. It also felt a little weird on an all medium stiffness 5 ply wood blade.

Very good control rubber, spinny, not very fast, excellent for an all-around game.

Not very durable. After about 6 months of occasional play, most tackiness is gone and quite frayed around the edges.

Looking for longer lasting/cheaper versions.
