The Stiga Calibra LT Sound is an innovative table tennis rubber that is designed to elevate a player’s offensive capabilities while ensuring remarkable control. Featuring a unique combination of a soft sponge and a firm top sheet, this rubber offers a crisp and loud sound on impact, reminiscent of the speed glue era, which many players find both nostalgic and satisfying. With an impressive speed rating of 94 and a spin rating of 93, the Calibra LT Sound is highly regarded for its ability to deliver powerful strokes while maintaining a solid level of control (71).
In terms of tackiness, the Calibra LT Sound scores a moderate 2, making it suitable for players seeking a rubber that assists in generating spin without being overly sticky. The low (2.7) weight classification makes it a great choice for those looking to keep their paddle light and agile, especially beneficial during quick exchanges at the table. The durability rating of 6.9 suggests that while the rubber may wear down more quickly than firmer options, it still offers decent longevity for regular club play.
For those considering alternatives, the Stiga Calibra LT Sound could be compared with rubbers like the DONIC Baracuda Big Slam and Tibhar FX-P; however, its distinctive feel and sound set it apart. This rubber caters primarily to intermediate and advanced players who engage in offensive play, particularly with a focus on backhand strokes due to its soft sponge, which enhances dwell time and control. Overall, the Stiga Calibra LT Sound is ideal for players looking to combine speed and control, along with a playful auditory experience when striking the ball.
The rubber does not match its price point. While it offers fast gameplay, the spin is significantly lower compared to Xiom VE or Tibhar FX-P. As a result, it is more suitable for blocking and flat attacking techniques than for generating spin.
Rubber with unique characteristics is uncommon: soft foam but fast and firm but with a medium low shot, good to crush and hit hard, used to the maximum in Yasaka on the start impulse. However, I think it is too fast.
The next Once in 2.0, even if it does not produce a lot of spin and is very delicate, will compensate for the control and the excellent feeling. It will be my permanent rubber for forehand (fh).
After 5 months of use, I have improved the rating of this rubber. I now think that it is very good for fh. It does not generate much spin in services but has great control in fast serves and blocking. The topspin is relentless if you hit hard, generating a lot of spin. It compensates for its weaknesses with these special characteristics.
Subjective Opinion:
Worst rubber I have ever used.
Objective Assessment:
1.8mm thickness on both the forehand and backhand.
Durability:
Lasted approximately 2 months. The topsheet and sponge deteriorated significantly after this period.
Control:
Spin and control were adequate but unremarkable.
Speed:
Lacking in the 1.8mm thickness.
Spin Sensitivity:
Highly responsive to incoming spin.
Blocking:
Difficult due to the rubber’s characteristics.
Sponge Properties:
Extremely soft sponge, the softest the reviewer has encountered.
