Butterfly Timo Boll ZLC
Blade description:
Performance Characteristics
The Timo Boll ZLC is a composite, 3+2 construction blade characterized by a lightweight build and a stiff, fast output. Despite its high speed, the blade maintains a notable degree of flex and a crisp, precise feel, making it highly capable for both aggressive driving and controlled topspin play. Players often note its effectiveness in the short game, citing excellent control during blocks, flicks, and touch shots, which allows the blade to remain manageable despite its offensive potential.
Feel and Handling
The blade is widely recognized for its stability and “springy” quality, which aids in lifting backspin and executing punchy, accurate smashes. While some users describe the feel as somewhat numb or lacking in traditional wooden-blade feedback, many appreciate its balance of speed and dwell time. It performs exceptionally well for close-to-the-table and mid-distance attackers who utilize active, rhythmic strokes.
Equipment Pairing
- Rubber Compatibility: The blade pairs effectively with a variety of modern tensioned rubbers, most notably the Tenergy and Dignics series. It is frequently noted that the blade excels when paired with medium-hard rubbers on the forehand for topspin-to-topspin exchanges, while softer rubbers are often preferred on the backhand to maximize control and lifting capabilities.
- Suitability: This blade is recommended for players with established technique seeking a faster setup without sacrificing the ability to place the ball with precision. It is generally regarded as a high-performance tool that requires consistent practice to fully unlock its offensive and defensive potential.

I have been using ALC’s and ZLC’s like TB alc, Viscaria alc/ salc, Zhang Jike alc, Amultart ZLC, Innerforce ZLC and now TB ZLC. Now I found my personal weapon after a long experimentation combo of set ups. TB ZLC with Dignics 09 on FH and Tenergy 05 on BH… dang!!! It’s a beast combo!!!.

This blade is truly remarkable. Its exceptional attribute lies in its ability to provide ample speed while preserving a high level of flexibility. Unlike many blades that compromise flex or feel in exchange for speed, this one strikes an ideal balance.

Before I played with it, I thought TIBHAR Timo Boll ZLC was very stiff and only good for hitting. However, it proved me wrong after a couple of sessions. Boll ZLC is very powerful and has great control at the same time. One can loop easily with it as well.
The return is very low and hard to counter. It is one of the best and easiest blades to lift backspin. If you are playing against a chopper, this is the best weapon you can have.
