Blade description:

Construction and Physical Characteristics

The Xiom Vega Tour is a composite blade featuring a 3+2 construction. It utilizes an outer Hinoki wood layer, which provides a distinct, soft, and crisp feel upon contact. The blade features a generous sweet spot, though some users have noted potential for vibration depending on personal sensitivity. Given the delicate nature of the Hinoki surface, it is highly recommended to seal the blade face before applying rubbers to prevent splintering.

Performance and Playing Style

This blade is designed for aggressive, versatile play, characterized as an OFF+ blade that maintains exceptional control during the short game. Its performance profile includes:

  • Speed and Power: It offers explosive speed when attacking, smashing, or looping from mid-to-far distance, without an overwhelming or uncontrollable catapult effect.
  • Feel and Dwell Time: The combination of the Hinoki outer ply and composite layers allows for excellent dwell time, facilitating high-spin generation on serves and loops.
  • Control and Versatility: Despite its high offensive potential, it provides enough precision to keep the ball low and short over the net during touch play, offering a level of consistency often compared favorably to traditional composite standards.

Recommendations

The Vega Tour is best suited for experienced players, as its speed and dynamic nature may prove challenging for beginners. Due to the soft feel of the Hinoki surface and the blade’s trajectory, it pairs effectively with harder, high-angle rubbers to balance the overall setup. Players should note that handle finishing can be textured, and the blade requires an adjustment period to fully master its unique speed-to-control ratio.

The best blade I have played with yet, however, it is also the most expensive at over 200 euros. Here in Europe, it is difficult to find this blade new. Used blades may be available occasionally if you are lucky.

I like the power of this blade, especially the backhand side using Rakza 9. It’s very powerful and spinny.
