Xiom Vega Elite

Xiom Vega Elite - packageXiom Vega Elite - sponge

Rubber description:

This rubber is classified as a tensor rubber, characterized by a very soft, porous sponge and a grippy, non-tacky topsheet. It is designed to provide high dwell time and a distinctive “click” sound upon impact. Due to its soft and springy nature, it offers a linear response, making it a predictable option for players seeking to enhance their feeling and control.

Performance Characteristics

  • Spin and Dwell Time: The rubber features high dwell time, which assists in generating spin during loops and topspin rallies. While it is capable of producing significant spin, the soft sponge means that players must engage the sponge correctly to maximize its potential.
  • Speed and Bounciness: It is generally considered a slower, more controlled option compared to high-end offensive rubbers. Its bouncy nature makes it highly responsive, which can be an advantage for active blocking and counter-spinning close to the table, but may result in less power when playing from a distance or attempting powerful smashes.
  • Control and Short Game: It provides excellent control for all-around and intermediate players, particularly for backhand play, blocking, and chopping. However, because it is quite bouncy, some players may find it challenging to execute delicate, short-game touches and passive returns without the ball popping up.

Usage and Suitability

  • Best Suited For: This rubber is well-regarded as a “gateway” tensor for players transitioning from classic rubbers or for those using stiff carbon blades who need extra dwell time and control to compensate for a fast setup.
  • Tactical Application: It is frequently used on the backhand side for reliable blocking, flicking, and controlled topspin. While it can be used on the forehand by all-around players, it performs best for those who prefer a soft, forgiving feel and a high degree of automated “glue-effect” performance.
  • Maintenance: It is noted for its good durability, although the performance of the soft topsheet may degrade over time depending on playing intensity and care. Note that the sponge can be prone to curling when unpacked, which may require attention during the gluing process.

These rubbers are fantastic with the Xiom Stradivarius and the Xiom Extreme S.

Lately, they came like they were cut out of a roll of rubber. They curl up and would not stay flat, making it so hard to glue.
I would not buy again.

This rubber has a low throw, unlike the Vega Pro which has a high throw. It is a good choice for backhand if you prefer soft rubbers.
