Andro Roxon 450

Rubber description:

This rubber is a tensor designed for offensive play, characterized by a significant rebound effect and high speed. It excels in aggressive blocking, flat hitting, and fast drives. When paired with harder blades, the rubber provides a stable platform for power shots and counter-hitting, offering a consistent feel that favors a direct, offensive game rather than a slow, spin-oriented one.

Performance Characteristics

  • Spin and Dwell Time: While it offers sufficient spin for driving and power looping, it is less effective for thin-contact brush loops or slow, heavy spin variations. Some users note a light tackiness that contributes to spin generation, though others find the surface lacks the grip required for high-level pushing or delicate short-game touch.
  • Short Game and Control: Engineered to improve upon older tensor generations, this rubber offers a more manageable short game than its predecessors, though it still retains a bouncy nature that can make delicate pushing challenging. The sponge allows for effective play away from the table, but the rubber’s surface sensitivity means the ball can occasionally “pop out” during passive play.
  • Durability and Surface Wear: The rubber is known for its high initial performance, but the surface grip and speed properties tend to diminish after a few weeks of intensive use. While the physical sheet is considered durable, the characteristic “fresh” bounce and speed feel degrade over time, which may impact the long-term consistency for frequent players.

The rubber is very similar to the Roxon 500, but it features a softer sponge. As a result, it offers less speed, less spin, and slightly better control. I tested it with MAX sponge on the Kinetic Suprime OFF and the Galaxy K-4, using it for both forehand (FH) and backhand (BH).

As a forehand rubber, it lacks penetration and finishing power, as well as spin. However, it performs well for backhand blocking.

I have this rubber on my forehand, and this is my second sheet; the first one was 2.0 mm, and now I have the max thickness. I am very happy with it.

I have tried a lot of other rubbers, including Bryce Speed FX, Hexer, Hexer+, Platin, and Platin Soft. My forehand preferences are Roxon 450 and Donic Platin, but Roxon offers better control and durability. Platin is only marginally better in terms of spin.

A highly offensive rubber that offers excellent spin and speed.
