Stiga Genesis S

Rubber description:

The Stiga Genesis S is a mid-range table tennis rubber that offers an intriguing blend of qualities aimed at players seeking balance in speed and control. Designed with an emphasis on providing a versatile playing experience, the Genesis S boasts impressive ratings, reflecting its ability to perform well across various aspects of the game. With a speed rating of 144 and a spin rating of 131, it caters to players who enjoy an aggressive looping style while maintaining a firm grip on control (rated at 83). This makes it an attractive option for intermediate to advanced players looking to enhance their gameplay.

In terms of tackiness, the Genesis S exhibits a moderate level (4.7), providing enough grip for players to impart spin, yet perhaps less than some would expect from a rubber that claims to integrate styles from European, Japanese, and Chinese origins. The weight of the rubber is slightly above average (5.3), which helps deliver a solid feel during play without feeling cumbersome. Additionally, the durability rating (6.9) indicates that the rubber will hold up reasonably well over time, though some reviews express concerns about tackiness wearing off sooner than anticipated.

For players seeking alternatives to the Stiga Genesis S, options like the Genesis 2 or newer models might present a more refined experience, as feedback suggests the Genesis S may not have fully met user expectations. Although this rubber has received mixed reviews—some praising its control and effectiveness in topspin play while others critique its hybrid nature and consistency—it remains a solid choice for those wanting a rubber that balances speed, spin, and control.

First Impression!

  • Slightly tacky.
  • Rated as soft, but it feels medium or medium-hard.
  • The rating “soft” is like soft on the Chinese hardness scale, but it is not soft compared to ESN rubbers.

On my ALC Blade

  • It is bouncy.

Awful hybrid from Stiga made in China. (Stiga does not make ANY rubbers in Sweden. Only blades.) This was a very strange rubber to play with, with many negative feelings. Avoid. There is a reason that they have now discontinued it and made a better one, Genesis 2! Maybe around Genesis 8 it will become good. Tack is gone after 2 trainings…

Stigas lame try at combining euro-jap-china is so bad that we used to make jokes about it at my job (with tt).
