Updated! I was searching for a rubber with a 45-degree sponge hardness when I came across a test and review of the Tibhar Aurus Select on a German table tennis blog. By chance, a few days later, I got my hands on a Butterfly Zhang Jike TAMCA 5000, which had two 1.7 mm AURUS Select rubbers attached. It was incredible! What a wonderful feeling of directness and control. A few weeks later, I decided to buy this rubber for myself.

Here are the facts: It is a red rubber with a 1.7 mm sponge and a 45-degree sponge hardness. According to “Spin & Speed Germany,” the total hardness of the rubber is 50 degrees, which combines well with the medium-hard top rubber. The weight, including packaging, is 85 g. The uncut weight is 60 g, and it weighs 43 g when cut (157 x 150 mm).

When I glued it onto my STUOR Nobilis ZLC Hinoki blade, I realized that this rubber felt too soft for my playing style. The wonderful sense of directness and control that I experienced with the Zhang Jike TAMCA 5000 was missing. This prompted me to buy that blade a few weeks later! Despite this initial adjustment, I soon got accustomed to the rubber (with 1.7 mm) and found it to be an excellent choice for my backhand.

In conclusion, the Aurus Select is a very controlled and forgiving rubber that offers above-average spin properties and a higher trajectory. It is suitable for players of nearly all skill levels, whether used as a forehand or backhand rubber. However, for those who prefer a more angular style of play, some other rubbers may be more effective. I used the rubber on my backhand, opting for both the max and 2.0 thickness in red. It is a nice rubber that offers excellent control and is suitable for counterattacks.

However, it isn’t an offensive rubber like the MX-P; instead, it feels more like a snipe rubber. This makes it a good choice for developing players who are working on their skills.

Excellent rubber with a fantastic feel. It offers good speed, impressive spin, and great control. Looping backspin is easy with this rubber.

I use the Tibhar Aurus Select 2.1 on my backhand with a Donic Balsa Carbo Fleece blade.

Overall, this is a nice, controlled, and forgiving rubber for the loop-oriented player. It also has significant potential as a backhand looping rubber due to its softer nature. However, I found myself longing for higher spin values on high-impact shots.

The closest parallel I can think of for Aurus Select is a less spinny version of Tibhar’s Evolution EL-S or Xiom’s Omega V Tour. Due to its controlled and forgiving nature, I believe this rubber could appeal to a broad base of players, including intermediate and advanced players, as well as children.

Donic Blue Feeling - FH Aurus Select / BH Nittaku Fastarc S-1

The Aurus has been a soothing dream compared to what was a nightmarish start to my table tennis experience. I started off with Butterfly 05 FX on a Stiga Eternity VPS as my first racket and the ball was going everywhere. It was not fun. It was a blade sold to me, so I decided to sit down, do my research, and attack this problem with my own racket design.

As a new player, I wanted to focus on technique but didn’t want something that would be utterly slow and defeat the purpose, so I bypassed the slower, cheaper rubbers and held off on Aurus Prime, deciding to go medium hard +.

This rubber from day one paid off my decision. The ball stays on, the loops from the table provide problems for other players, and I feel my game has improved as a result. In combination with an all-around blade, there is still plenty of speed on the table, but a few steps back it leaves a bit to be desired, although you still get a nice spiny ball. Spin will remain, but the speed will diminish.

When I work up the nerve to get myself an OFF blade, I will seriously consider staying with this rubber. If not, I will be getting the Aurus Prime.

Rubber very similar to the fxp a little harder has more Spin but I found it slower in other comments it said it was faster, according to me it is slower or the same.
