Tibhar Aurus Sound

Rubber description:

Tibhar Aurus is a tensor rubber known for its balanced performance, making it a popular choice for offensive players who prioritize control alongside speed and spin. It is widely regarded as a versatile option suitable for both forehand and backhand play, with many users highlighting its effectiveness in close-to-the-table allround offensive games.

Playing Characteristics

  • Spin and Speed: The rubber offers high spin potential, particularly effective for looping, counter-hitting, and service variations. It provides good speed that is often characterized as fast and lively, featuring a distinct sound upon impact that many players find feedback-rich.
  • Control and Dwell: It is frequently praised for its precision and stability. While it is marketed by the manufacturer as soft, user experience varies, with many reporting a medium to medium-soft feel. Its dwell time allows for confident ball placement in topspin rallies and controlled blocking.
  • Trajectory: The rubber produces a medium throw angle, which helps in lifting the ball and creating varied, effective trajectories during mid-distance topspin play.

Suitability and Versatility

  • Player Level: It is accessible enough for beginners or intermediate players looking to transition into tensor technology, yet capable enough for advanced offensive play.
  • Weight and Feel: Many versions are notably lightweight, making it an excellent choice for players who prefer a balanced or light racket setup, such as those using penhold grips or needing stability for reverse penhold backhand (RPB) shots.
  • Surface Compatibility: While it performs well on a variety of blades, it is often paired with medium to medium-hard blades to optimize the balance between speed and control. It is generally better suited for attacking, looping, and active blocking rather than defensive chopping, due to its responsive nature.

I recommend the rubber sponge 1.7mm to beginners. Those whose table tennis skills are 0 or -10.
This rubber is suitable for those who are “Wood” in tennis, with a sponge thickness of 1.7mm.

Once upon a time, a long time ago (in 2011), this rubber was reviewed here for the first time by Marcello. Back then, people still played with celluloid balls! Today, 13 years later, this rubber is still on the market and, without a doubt, is one of the best backhand (BH) rubbers available.

It may be too soft for many players for their forehand (FH) side, but due to its very tight top rubber, it is a medium-fast, very spiny rubber with good catapult. The sponge hardness is specified as 40 degrees, and the total hardness is 50.2 degrees (according to Spin and Speed in Germany), which corresponds to the total hardness of the Aurus Select (with 45-degree sponge).

Here are a few more facts about the rubbers I bought:

  • Red 1.7 mm: original packaging 90 g, uncut 59 g, cut to 157 x 159 mm only 40 g.
  • Black 1.7 and 1.9 mm: original packaging 86 g, uncut 57 g, cut on Cybershape dimensions only 42 g.

Conclusion: I have already largely submitted it. Not only is this rubber really excellent, but it is also very light and helps to minimize the weight of the blade. It is definitely suitable for beginners, but also for players up to intermediate levels.

Spin excellence. Great rubber for underspin, looping, and blocking.
