This is a soft sponge with a medium soft topsheet. It is great for reverse pendulum serve and first opening against backspin. This is a backhand rubber with a lot of alright characteristics. However, it does not produce a lot of spin and quality in shots. The rubber has average durability.

If you want to get better at table tennis for a cheaper price (€25 a sheet), I recommend the Joola Rhyzm series.

Reviewing on a 729 V-6 blade, the Aurus Sound in black with a 2.1mm thickness was tested on the backhand as a more budget-friendly alternative to the Yasaka Rakza 7 Soft.

Overall, the Aurus Sound feels comparable to the R7S, with a similar physical sensation when handling. However, the Aurus Sound appears a bit stiffer upon playing. While blocking remains satisfactory, it falls short of the R7S.

Topspin is less effortless due to the reduced dwell time compared to the R7S, while pushing is more manageable with the R7S, with the Aurus Sound often resulting in longer shots.

The Aurus Sound caters more towards aggressive backhand play, with potential for more forceful flat strokes, differing from the more passive topspin/block-oriented approach. It feels lighter than the Rakza 7 Soft.

In comparison to the Yasaka Rigan, the Aurus Sound falls between it and the Rakza 7 Soft. These rubbers are not comparable to Chinese tacky rubbers like DHS H3N or Yinhe Big Dipper in terms of spin and speed. They are intended for controlled play, primarily on the backhand. Beginners may find them suitable for learning looping on the forehand. Weight cut, Max: 38g.

Medium soft rubber that provides great spin and good control. When using a hard allwood blade on my backhand, it gives a speed glue feeling. It offers a good feeling when pushing and blocking. Its main function is long pushes at the corners. This is a very good rubber for all-around offensive play.

After playing with the Aurus Soft, too, I am convinced this rubber is a lot more controllable than the soft version. On a Tibhar Samsonov Alpha blade in 1.9mm on both sides, it is a looper’s dream, blocks extremely well, pushes well, and does everything very well.

Edit:
On a Waldner Senso Carbon:

  • Not good for chopping
  • Almost impossible for really short play
  • Long backspin ball is possible, but it is difficult to play backspin on topspins coming from the opponent

It is similar to Genius Sound but has longer durability and is more grippy, but faster.
I think it is faster than Tenergy 05! Very fast rubber.
Very good looper’s rubber, purely for attack play, not for backspin, superb for topspin!!

Excellent rubber for all-round gameplay close to the table. The soft sponge assists with pushing and blocking. It also provides very good spin and topspin performance.

It is a very good rubber for forehand. While the spin is just more than average, the control is exceptional. It is very controllable for forehand shots, although not for chops. The speed is good, comparable to Donic Coppa Jo Silver. However, it is slightly overpriced.

This wonderful rubber is designed for offensive playstyles and offers excellent spin generation while maintaining a high level of control.

The rubber plays quite well, but it is not as soft as Tibhar claims. I found that this rubber has a medium to medium-soft sponge hardness, which was not quite what I was looking for.

The claim by Tibhar that this rubber is soft is not accurate. I have had the opportunity to play with it and found that it has a rather hard topsheet, which was not to my preference.

Very good offensive rubber. I’ve been using it for 8 months and I bought it again! I use it in bh and fh, too. Amazing spin and speed with good control.

I don’t think it’s really a soft rubber as it is advertised. It’s much harder than I expected. However, I must admit that it’s very good rubber—one of the best rubbers I’ve ever played with.

Table Tennis Rubber Review

The rubber on my paddle is excellent, and it provides great control during play. While the speed is fairly high, what I enjoy most is the spin and the sound it produces. I find myself wanting to cut the ball off as much as possible just to hear the satisfying sound. I never would have expected to get such high-quality rubber for the price of 36.9 euros. The ball’s curve is remarkable! Some people even compare it to tenergy. While I can’t say for sure if it’s comparable, I am very satisfied overall and believe it’s worth the money.

Awesome rubber for offensive controlled players. It delivers incredible hook and a lot of spin. You can feel the ball ever in your hand, and the sound is amazing. I’ve played with Tenergy 05-05fx and recently with Tibhar Genius plus. From now, Aurus sound is my new rubber. Enjoy it.

#14 — Long Time Ago...

Once upon a time, a long time ago (in 2011), this rubber was reviewed here for the first time by Marcello. Back then, people still played with celluloid balls! Today, 13 years later, this rubber is still on the market and, without a doubt, is one of the best backhand (BH) rubbers available.

It may be too soft for many players for their forehand (FH) side, but due to its very tight top rubber, it is a medium-fast, very spiny rubber with good catapult. The sponge hardness is specified as 40 degrees, and the total hardness is 50.2 degrees (according to Spin and Speed in Germany), which corresponds to the total hardness of the Aurus Select (with 45-degree sponge).

Here are a few more facts about the rubbers I bought:

  • Red 1.7 mm: original packaging 90 g, uncut 59 g, cut to 157 x 159 mm only 40 g.
  • Black 1.7 and 1.9 mm: original packaging 86 g, uncut 57 g, cut on Cybershape dimensions only 42 g.

Conclusion: I have already largely submitted it. Not only is this rubber really excellent, but it is also very light and helps to minimize the weight of the blade. It is definitely suitable for beginners, but also for players up to intermediate levels.
