The Xiom Omega V Asia is a high-performance table tennis rubber designed for aggressive players seeking a perfect blend of speed, spin, and control. With its hard 50-degree sponge, it provides a solid and consistent feel upon impact, making it an excellent choice for both forehand and backhand play. Players appreciate the rubber’s versatility, as it suits various styles and provides responsive feedback, allowing for both powerful loops and precise blocks.
Tackiness is relatively low, rated at 2.1, meaning it doesn’t have the sticky feel of traditional Chinese rubbers. However, this allows for excellent control and a more linear playstyle. The rubber’s medium throw angle ensures a safe trajectory over the net, enhancing its usability for loops while still accommodating flat hits effectively. This balance makes it particularly appealing for players who enjoy both offensive and defensive techniques. Weight-wise, it is considered medium (5.8), which, combined with its dense sponge, requires players to adjust to its characteristics, especially in terms of control and technique.
In terms of durability, the Xiom Omega V Asia stands out with an impressive rating of 8.7, ensuring that it can withstand the rigors of both practice and competitive play. Players transitioning from softer or less durable rubbers often find that this rubber retains its performance for an extended time, making it a cost-effective option.
Alternatives to this rubber include Xiom’s own Omega V Europe, which offers a softer feel with slightly more spin, and Tensor-style rubbers like the Butterfly Tenergy series, which are known for their bounciness. For players seeking a versatile rubber that excels in all aspects of the game, the Xiom Omega V Asia is a standout choice that combines speed and control in an impressive package.
Excellent spin and speed, making it ideal for use on a stiff blade. I’ve found it to perform better than Dignics 05 and MXP 50, my previous setups. It excels in short and mid-distance play, although lobs may not be as effective as with MXP 50. However, it compensates with extremely spinny chops, pushes, loops, and counters.
I’ve been using this for 1 year now and I have a really good idea of this rubber. This rubber’s pros are:
Cons:
As an aggressive third-ball attacker, I used to seek rubbers that serve decently and can grip and rip a ball with lots of speed and spin.
Now that my level has gone up, I’ve noticed stability and control have become more important. My opponents can return more serves and drives.
Therefore, shots like blocking and short play have become more desirable. I’m confident my serves and drives will be adequate regardless of the rubber.
With that in mind, I opted for the harder Omega V Asia. It excels in everything I need to do to win a point, whether playing controlled blocks and pushes or devastating drives.
The only thing to keep in mind is that you need to play it actively on forehand pushes. It can be somewhat sensitive to heavy backspin.
