The Noveliar offers a fantastic playing experience, akin to its 7-ply Hinoki cousin, the Nittaku Septear. It possesses the renowned “magic mojo” characteristic of Kiso Hinoki blades.

Paired with Nittaku Fastarc S-1 on both sides, the Noveliar produces a crisp high-pitched sound during hard hits and a sweet, hollow wood resonance with softer hits. While the all-wood feel remains unparalleled, this blade provides enhanced speed, accuracy, and power.

The precision and shot placement facilitated by this blade are remarkable, likely influenced by the Fastarc S-1. Smashes and loops gain significant power, accompanied by an exceptional “pop” as the ball leaps from the table with heavy spin. This blade excels in all aspects of play, including smashes, loops, chops, pushes, blocks, and flicks, thanks to its lighter weight and natural feel. The adjustment required for serving with a heavier blade is minimal and can be addressed through practice.

Although the blade lacks a modern handle design, its wooden components have a slightly dry appearance (easily remedied with linseed oil), and the plastic logo on the handle may appear dated. However, these features lend a unique charm and character to the blade.

The circular badge at the handle’s base, which some users have reported as being potentially off-center, has been replaced by a newer diamond/hexagon shaped Nittaku Made in Japan badge. The flared handle provides exceptional comfort, despite some concerns about its small size. Nittaku’s superior Japanese engineering and craftsmanship ensure an unobtrusive handle during flicks and pendulum serves.

Finally, the exquisite fragrance of the Kiso Hinoki (Cypress) wood adds to the overall appeal of the blade. This is a must-have addition to any table tennis enthusiast’s arsenal. Go ahead and add one to your collection today!
