The Victas VS > 401 is a premier table tennis rubber characterized by its impressive spin and control, making it a favorite among defenders and versatile attackers. Its unique blend of hardness and tackiness, rated at 1.7, allows players to generate exceptional underspin while maintaining excellent overall performance in both offensive and defensive play. With a high overall rating of 9.3, this rubber is recognized for its remarkable ability to adapt across various play styles, offering significant spin and control at the cost of extreme speed.
In terms of weight, the Victas VS > 401 is notably heavy, with a measurement of 8.3, which some players find challenging, particularly in sustained play. This weight contributes to its exceptional durability, rated at an outstanding 8.6, ensuring that the rubber retains its properties over extended periods even under rigorous use. Players have reported that despite its robust construction, the rubber’s hardness may require some adjustment for optimal effectiveness, making it a better fit for intermediate players and above who possess solid technique.
For alternatives, players might consider other high-spin rubbers such as the Xiom Vega Pro or Butterfly Tenergy 05. However, the VS > 401 stands out for its unique ability to balance spin and control, especially for those focused on defensive strategies or heavy chopping. It is a well-rounded choice for players seeking to refine their defensive game while still having the capability to execute effective offensive strokes when needed. Overall, the Victas VS > 401 is an outstanding rubber that caters to players aiming for high spin and control, while also demanding a thoughtful approach to technique and playstyle.
I have been using Victas 401 for many years. It is easily the best backhand rubber I have ever used. So much control and loads of spin. Not the fastest, but on a fast Carbon blade, it is fast enough.
This is the best rubber on the market if you like to push and chop. I use this rubber predominantly on my backhand.
It is also fantastic if you like to make topspin shots.
I use this rubber on offensive blades at a 1.5mm thickness. I purchased a 1.8mm thickness but I haven’t used it yet.
I also switch it to my forehand if I am making close to the table forehand shots when I am initiating the attack.
I have purchased this rubber FIVE times. I LOVE this rubber.
If you have an all-around game I would highly recommend it.
VS401 black 2mm on forehand.
Pros:
Cons:
VS401 fits the Matsushita Special blade like a dream. “Spin oriented high energy tension rubber for aggressive chopper”. Nothing to add, probably the most accurate description you can get about it.
Probably my favorite rubber of all time (with V20 Double Extra).
