Xiom Omega 2 Asian

Rubber description:

This tensor rubber is engineered specifically for uncompromising offensive play, prioritizing extreme speed above all other performance attributes. It features a highly bouncy sponge that generates significant velocity, making it well-suited for smashers and players who rely on aggressive, flat-hitting attacks. Due to the high-tension nature of the rubber, it is not recommended for beginners and requires a significant adjustment period to master, particularly in the short game and delicate touch shots.

Playing Characteristics

  • Speed: Exceptionally high, categorized as one of the fastest options in its series, designed to deliver powerful, penetrating shots.
  • Spin: Offers functional spin capability, though it is frequently noted as lacking compared to high-end spin-oriented rubbers. It is generally better suited for speed-based attacks than heavy loop-spinning.
  • Control: Challenging to handle due to the pronounced bounciness. Control is limited in short play, passive blocking, and cutting, necessitating a refined technique to keep the ball on the table.
  • Dwell Time: The high-tension, “pumped-up” feel results in a reactive surface that promotes fast ball departure rather than prolonged dwell.

For optimal performance, this rubber is best paired with flexible or lighter blades rather than high-speed OFF+ blades, which can exacerbate control issues. Players focusing on an aggressive forehand or J-pen style are the primary target audience. Because the rubber’s inherent speed and high-tension characteristics are polarizing, it is suggested to test the equipment before committing to a full setup.

I use Xiom Omega 2 Asian on my Xiom Omega Pro Blade. This is quite a good rubber! It is very bouncy, so you will need time to control it. Overall, I am satisfied with this rubber.

Update: I have updated several items (control, tackiness, and throw angle). My opinion still stands. This is a fast tension rubber that has decent control and is not too spinny. It is, however, heavy rubber.

Fast but not enough spin.
Not suitable for beginners.

Xiom Omega 2 Asian is quite a good rubber for intermediates. This rubber is very fast, but it lacks in control and spin. (The speed may be due to the BIOS Tensor Rubber.) So it might be hard for beginners to control. It is not recommended for beginners or for use on an OFF+ blade, which would maximize your speed and limit your control. I recommend this rubber for use on a flexible and light blade.
