Blade description:

The Andro Gauzy SL OFF is an exceptional table tennis blade designed for competitive players seeking unparalleled speed and control. Crafted from high-quality seven-ply wood, the blade features a sophisticated combination of Ovangkol and a hard outer ebony layer that enhances its performance. This construction not only contributes to its impressive speed rating of 8.9 but also allows players to generate potent spin and precision during various strokes. The blade’s design is aimed at aggressive play styles, making it ideal for loop drivers who prioritize fast-paced exchanges while retaining control.

Weighing in at a medium 92 grams, the Andro Gauzy SL OFF strikes an optimal balance between power and maneuverability. At a moderate thickness, this blade is comfortable for long matches, allowing players to maintain a steady grip without compromising performance. Its semi-stiff nature provides a well-defined response, allowing the user to execute rapid smashes and topspins without losing control.

Flexibility-wise, the blade displays a noteworthy stiffness level of 5.7. While it can be a challenge for those who prefer a softer feel, many users have found it essential for executing high-speed shots without sacrificing accuracy. This attribute can be adjusted using suitable medium-soft rubbers such as Xiom or Tenergy, enhancing the blade’s versatility based on player preference.

Given its distinctive characteristics, alternative options may include blades such as the Stiga Rosewood NCT or various carbon blades like the Viscaria. However, the Andro Gauzy SL OFF stands out as one of the top choices among all-wood options, providing players with the speed reminiscent of carbon blades while still delivering the touch and control expected from high-quality wood. For those who embrace power gameplay and refinement, this blade offers a compelling experience on the table.

Yesterday, I played with this blade equipped with the Nittaku Hurricane Pro 3 Orange on the forehand (FH) and the Andro Hexer Powergrip on the backhand (BH). I found it to be a very consistent and controllable blade with these rubbers, producing a low throw.

Hard and stiff, this blade must be used with medium-soft, bouncy tensors to get the best results. It is the fastest of any all-wood blades I have ever used.

It is very good with rubbers such as Xiom Europe, BTY Tenergy, or Tibhar Evolution.

Do not use it with Chinese rubbers.

Have had a chance to practice with one of these several times in the last few weeks. To me, this is a fast blade, with a somewhat hard feeling but still very responsive. The ball comes off the paddle with a lot of speed while still keeping enough spin to stay on the table. When my opponent uses it, his smashes seem to carry some extra zing than with his old blade (Galaxy ZF5), and are more frequent. It’s a nice blade, worthy of its current position (#4) in the overall ratings.
