Andro Novacell OFF/S
Blade description:
This is an all-wood, 5-ply blade characterized by its lightweight construction, typically ranging between 76 and 81 grams. It offers a fast, medium-crisp feel with a degree of stiffness that allows for effective power, yet it maintains enough flexibility to provide significant tactile feedback and vibration. Due to these physical properties, it is well-suited for players who prefer a direct, sensitive connection to the ball during close-to-the-table attacks.
Performance and Handling
- Playing Style: The blade is optimized for an aggressive, close-to-the-table game, excelling in looping, blocking, and smashing. It provides high control in the short game and push-heavy exchanges.
- Feel and Feedback: Users report a high level of ball feeling, often described as playing “with one’s hand.” The blade transmits vibrations, which aids in ball placement and spin generation.
- Compatibility: While the blade is versatile, it performs best when paired with medium-to-hard rubbers to complement its stiff, fast base.
Construction and Maintenance
- Dimensions: It features a compact head size and a comfortable, ergonomic handle design that is well-suited for a variety of players, including those who prefer lighter setups.
- Maintenance Note: The surface of the blade is susceptible to splintering when changing rubbers. It is highly recommended to apply a light layer of varnish or lacquer to the blade face before initial use to protect the wood and ensure durability during future equipment adjustments.

What a beautiful little thing! I mean it literally, since this is the smallest blade I’ve ever owned.
The control rating is estimated to be 9.2 right now, but in my opinion, it’s not worse than my Koki Niwa Wood’s 9.7. The Niwa is simply better when you play far from the table.
I have two of these blades, both weighing 78 grams. One is equipped with Andro Hexer Powergrip SFX 2.1 mm on both sides. The SFX is way too soft and slow, even though the blade is rather stiff. Use at least 47.5-degree rubbers.
The other blade has Fastarc G-1 Max (2.2 mm). The Novacell OFF/S shows its best qualities when you play close to the table. I have only tested a few carbon blades in my life and not a single balsa blade, but so far, this Novacell/G-1 combination is best for my slow reflexes. You don’t have to have perfect technique with semi-hard rubbers. I win most of my points hitting with only my hand.
The OFF/S is also ideal for women and children because of its light weight and small handle.

Light blade, but I don’t have a good feeling with it.

Light blade with decent speed and a huge amount of control.
I paired it with Rakza 7 Soft 1.8 on the backhand and Fastarc G1 2.0 on the forehand. This is a good combo for close-to-the-table play with many pushes, short game, and medium-power topspins.
