Butterfly Fan Zhendong ALC

I have many of them in golden version (FZD personal version) and one in commercial version (silver tag).

This is, in both versions, the best blade I have ever tried, and I tried thousands.

Extremely stable in block, very spinny, the shots are fast and direct, and you can place them wherever you want.

Handle feels most comfortable and backhand forehand transitions are the quickest with this blade (only Boll Spirit can be a rival). In terms of power and speed, I had some Viscaria Gold or player versions that could beat it, but this one makes it always on the table.

If you can’t buy player version, please choose the commercial blade carefully in shops; I could only take 2 among 50 as you can see the quality is variable. It’s even worse for Viscaria.

But overall, it’s the best blade ever made for me.

This blade offers a lot of control. The handle is good; I have the FL one. Paired with two D09C on both sides, it is great for looping.

UPDATE: After some time, I changed to different rubbers: DHS Hurricane 3 Prov blue sponge, D05 1.9mm, Battle 2 Provincial, and National. I’ve noticed the backhand side tends to be very picky for the rubber; this happened when I used D05 and the rubber started to lose its catapult effect. For the forehand, this blade was excellent. Now I use the Battle 2 National on both sides, but I am also noticing different performances of this rubber—although it has the same type, it is a different color. I will write the review as well.

A Viscaria with a slightly chunkier handle. Works pretty well with Dignics 09 °C.

It is a well-balanced blade between spin, control, and speed, with a good arc to cover the net. Not too heavy; mine came at 91 g. I’m currently playing it with a Hurricane 3 Neo on the FH and a Hurricane 8-80 on the BH. It feels controlled, but you have to adjust on some shots because it still is a fast blade and it might fly out, but if you ask me, I would say it’s still very controllable for its speed. In terms of spin, I was always wondering if the blade would affect the spin performance, but it didn’t. Of course, Hurricane 3 Neo is already pretty spinny, but the blade doesn’t take away any spin; it even helps because of its good dwell time. I’ve only been playing with it for a month, and I really like it a lot. Good for loopers and fast attackers. To me, I don’t feel a big difference between an inner ALC and an outer ALC. Good blade for intermediate and advanced players. No real cons.

Good! Even though it’s designed for Fan Zhendong who is a fast looper, it’s good in all aspects of the game. Great with Hurricane blue sponge on FH. Muzn 50 on BH is surprisingly good, but took getting used to.

Got one weighted 87 grams. Flared handle. Handle looks similar to Viscaria’s, but feels rounder and easier to switch between backhand and forehand. It fits my small hand. Glued two sheets of Glayzer 09 °C max on it. Very balanced. Before this blade, I used Innerforce Layer ALC, which provided good ball feeling. To my surprise, this one gives me an even better and more direct feeling. Now the IFL ALC seems to relay the feeling a little slow. It is faster than IFL ALC even with G09C. It is easy to make crazy fast and spiny loops. Smashing is a joy. Pushing is easy. This blade is much easier to use than I expected. It is like an extension of my hand. If you have decent skill, you can handle it. It can help you get better.

Update: The thick handle allows me to hold the blade a little loose so my wrist can move smoothly. It also creates more contact area on my palm for better feedback. Got a chance to practice with a chopper. I could fast loop like never before. My backhand keeps getting stronger. I can do compact and fast backhand. When everything is lined up, I can blast a backhand so fast that my club mate just freezes.

P.S. This is how I find my best blade among the blades. First, I place something like my smartphone at the head of the blade to see which one feels lighter. Second, gently pinch with two fingers at the tapered sides of the handle and tap the wood with a finger knuckle to feel out which blade gives out the best vibration to the pinching fingers.

92g. Perfect for me. It goes well with a low-arc hard rubber, as the wood makes the ball go a bit higher compared to other ALCs on the butterfly. The T05 Hard is the perfect choice for the forehand, but only for professionals or Chinese techniques. I didn’t like the regular T05 for the forehand, due to its high arc, but it was good on the backhand. I tried the D09C on the forehand and I couldn’t hit serves with heavy spin and topspin, and I didn’t like the high arch. Maybe I need to improve my technique. Right now I’m using it with 2 Glayzer 09Cs, fits great, but its durability is horrible. (7 September) I changed to lighter and changed completely my game! Fits better to me 88g (trust me, makes a huge difference), now I’m using with 2 Dignics 09 °C again, because now I improved my technique, before I didn’t have a great feeling, but I’ll be back soon.

Very nice control! This blade is the best! Never tried a blade like this (I tested 12 blades). Outer carbon is just the best for counter and offensive play with the P-ball. ALC carbon is the best carbon with nice touch! Now I will never change, this is my blade! Thx Fan Zhendong.

Looping oriented! Paired with T05 on FH — best combination. For BH I have V22 double extra — offer more dwell time if you lack good technique. Can generate a lot of spin and for big guys like me it helps with initial kick which is good for not so agile legs and torso. World class quality. Catapult + spin + speed + decent amount of feel and good control. No cons for me.

The best ALC blade I’ve ever tried so far. I tried Lin Gaoyuan ALC, DHS Hurricane Long 5/5X, and Viscaria Super ALC. Nothing comes close to this blade. This blade is not picky when it comes to rubbers. You can put any rubbers on this blade and it will perform fine. Buy this blade if you like big handles.

Not amazing blades, still better than LGY ALC and Otcharov ALC in its class.

Nice control and balance. Good for short and mid-distance play. I’m still adjusting to long balls, but it still performs well in gameplay.

After 4 years playing with a DHS Malong 3 (7-ply all-wood blade), I felt it was time to try something new. The ML Long 3 is a fantastic blade with excellent feel and speed, but it lacked the sharpness needed to finish points consistently.

One of my friends switched to an Innerforce ALC blade, which offered astonishing control and had the potential to make a difference. The FZD ALC is more direct compared to the ML3 and Innerforce ALC. I didn’t expect such an offensive blade to have such good control. It grabs the ball momentarily and releases the power when you strike hard or place the ball short and low over the net. This is remarkable because I’m using T05 rubber, which is known for its bounciness.

On my forehand, I use Dignics 80, which was extremely fast on the ML3 blade. However, with the FZD ALC blade, I can generate more spin due to the noticeable moment of grip and release. Backhand Chiquita shots are direct and can be dangerously fast. Mid-distance forehand loops are easy to execute due to the built-in grip and power release. Service receive is extremely spinny because of the grip aspect.

Decent blade for an intermediate player.

I requested the blade to be around 86 grams, and the blade is great with balanced speed and control. I have only been playing for less than a year, but I have good fundamentals with a focus on service variations and topspin, and this blade took me just a couple of days to adjust to it. It improved my game a lot with training. Also, I got Hurricane Neo 3 on the forehand and Xiom Vega Pro on the backhand, and the setup is just a spin machine, great for service and topspinning the ball. The international shipping to Egypt was surprisingly fast, as it took less than a week to be delivered to my doorstep, and it was an overall good experience with TableTennis11. It was my first time purchasing from the website, but it will definitely be my first choice for any future purchases.

The best ALC blade so far!

Excellent blade for pro.

Obviously, this blade is blowing up now because it is advertised and named after world number 1, and in my opinion, best player ever: Fan ZhenDong.

Comparing it to regular Viscaria since they are both ALC blades with the same composition, I feel like the FZDALC is more controllable, but a bit lacking in speed compared to the Viscaria.

Both generate good amounts of spin, but sometimes it depends on the rubber and traction choices too.

For rubber choices, I recommend harder rubbers (I use T05H) on the forehand, and medium to medium-hard rubbers (I use T64/ T19) on the backhand.

For intermediate players, I recommend using Donic Baracuda on both sides. You won’t regret that decision.
