Donic Epox Offensiv

Donic Epox Offensiv - mainDonic Epox Offensiv - composition

Blade description:

The Donic Epox Offensive is an all-wood 5-ply blade characterized by a stiff construction and a total thickness of approximately 6.5–6.7mm. While it is marketed as an offensive blade, user experiences regarding its speed vary, with many describing it as an offensive-minus setup that emphasizes consistency and controlled play over raw power. The build quality is noted to be high, featuring a comfortable handle and a smooth finish.

Playing Characteristics

  • Stiffness and Feel: Due to its thickness, the blade provides a stiff, solid feel during hard strikes. While some users find the feedback muted, others report a distinct “cricking” sound and positive wood feel, particularly when paired with softer rubbers.
  • Performance: It excels in close-to-mid distance looping, blocking, and topspin-heavy offensive play. The blade is considered reliable for counter-attacking, though it may struggle with defensive maneuvers such as passive pushing or chopping.
  • Weight Sensitivity: The blade exhibits significant variability in total weight, which can drastically alter its playability. Lighter versions are generally preferred for better maneuverability and balance, while heavier units (approaching 93g) are described by some as stiff and brick-like.
  • Rubber Pairing: The blade performs effectively with a wide range of rubbers, though it is noted to be particularly well-suited for soft or medium-soft tensioned rubbers. Pairing it with very fast, high-tension rubbers can sometimes lead to a loss of control.

The Donic Epox series blades are excellent, offering a balance of speed and a pleasant wooden feel.

For rubbers, I have equipped the forehand side with Tibhar Evolution MXP, which enhances looping capabilities. On the backhand, I use Sonex JP Gold, which excels in blocking and counterplay.

Having tested both the Epox TopSpeed and Epox Offensive blades, I can confidently state that the Epox series is exceptional. Notably, the Offensive blade exhibits a slightly reduced speed compared to the TopSpeed variant.

Great light and fast blade. Highly recommended.

Good 5-ply offensive blade. However, it offers little feeling due to its thickness of 6.5-6.7mm.

The finish is good, and the price is just fine.
