Donic Sonex JP Gold
Rubber description:
This rubber is a classic tensor designed primarily for offensive play, favored by intermediate players for its balance of speed and control. It features a thin, flexible, and slightly tacky top-sheet paired with a medium-soft, springy sponge. The rubber is recognized for producing a distinct, high-pitched sound upon contact, often described as having an “unforgettable” feel.
Playing Characteristics
- Offensive Capabilities: It excels at aggressive shots, including smashes, fast topspins, and mid-distance loops. The rubber provides enough power for penetrating shots while maintaining sufficient control for precise placement.
- Backhand and Technical Play: Many users prefer this rubber for the backhand due to its ease of use when performing flicks, blocks, and quick counter-attacks. Its flexible nature allows for effective spin variation, including side-spin and backspin pushes.
- Spin and Dwell Time: While the tackiness is subtle, it provides enough grip for effective serves and loops. The sponge’s softness offers a decent dwell time, allowing for better ball manipulation during offensive exchanges.
Operational Notes
- Durability: A common drawback is the relatively short lifespan of the rubber, as the thin top-sheet is prone to peeling and degradation with heavy use.
- Adaptation: Because it is faster than traditional non-tensor rubbers, players transitioning from slower equipment may need to adjust their blade angle—specifically, using a more closed angle—to maintain consistent control during rapid rallies.

Used on my backhand, this rubber is quite springy. It offers a good amount of spin, making it really good for blocking and quick placements to win points. I used it with Joola Fever wood and it was a joy to play.

Used it on my backhand with Samsonov Force Pro blade. It has good control, speed, and spin. I could do backhand tap and topspin with ease. Comes with a rubber protection sheet.

So, this rubber was a part of my first custom-made combination with Joola Rhyzm on Joola Rosskopf Emotion. It was good, with nice tackiness and speed. I used it on the forehand and Rhyzm on the backhand. It generated a lot of spin, and the loop was nice. I found the sweetspot for my forehand top spin with this rubber. It’s comparatively on the softer side. The durability is not so great if you play a lot; it’ll die soon. I suggest this to someone for their first pair of rubbers or maybe second… amateurs basically. But going into the intermediate or professional level, you’ll need better rubbers.
