Nittaku Shake Defence

This is an all-wood defensive blade characterized by a notably large head size (162 mm x 168 mm). It is widely regarded as a staple for modern defensive play, offering high levels of control and a low throw angle. While it excels in close-to-the-table blocking and generating heavy underspin with long pimples, it remains capable of offensive play, particularly when paired with soft to medium-soft tensor rubbers on the forehand.

Playing Characteristics

• Feel and Performance: The blade provides a stiff and hard feel, which contributes to effective spin reversal when using long pimples. It is well-suited for both distance chopping and short-game control. Despite its large head size, the weight distribution is generally manageable, preventing the blade from feeling overly head-heavy.
• Construction and Durability: This is an all-wood blade with a soft inner core. Users should be aware that it is fragile; the outer plies and structural integrity are susceptible to damage if the edge of the blade strikes the table or floor.
• Equipment Pairing: It is frequently recommended for use with long pimples, including friction-based and frictionless variants, and performs best with modern, elastic offensive rubbers on the forehand side rather than hard Chinese-style rubbers. Note that some users may find the handle shape or the blade neck transition uncomfortable depending on their grip.
