Xiom ICE CREAM AZX
Blade description:
The Xiom Ice Cream AZX is an offensive composite blade featuring a unique asymmetrical design. It utilizes a 3+2 construction, incorporating a different carbon composite on each side of the blade—ZLC (Zylon Carbon) on one side and ALC (Arylate Carbon) on the other. This allows players to customize their setup to suit specific playing preferences for their forehand and backhand, offering distinct performance characteristics depending on which side is used.
Performance and Feel
- Composite Characteristics: The blade is characterized by a stiff, hard feel with minimal vibration and a large, forgiving sweet spot, making it suitable for both close-to-the-table and mid-distance play.
- Asymmetrical Dynamics: The ALC side typically provides a higher arc and is well-suited for aggressive power shots, loops, and direct attacking play. The ZLC side offers a softer or stiffer feel depending on the user, generally providing more control and a flatter, more precise trajectory, which many users find effective for short pips or controlled blocking.
- Construction: The blade features Koto outer plies and is reported to be faster and stiffer than many traditional Koto-composite blades. Its speed is high, requiring a level of proficiency that makes it more appropriate for advanced players rather than beginners or intermediate users.
Build Quality and Ergonomics
- Finish: The blade is noted for high-quality craftsmanship, including smooth edges that typically do not require sanding before use.
- Balance: It possesses a good weight distribution, though individual player feedback regarding handle size has been mixed. While some find the handle comfortable and well-designed, others have described specific versions as thin, which may impact grip security during aggressive swings.

Good weight balance. The ALC side is comparable to the Butterfly Timo Boll ALC, but a little slower.
Good feeling and feedback are provided when the ball makes contact with the blade. The ZLC side is a bit stiff with less dwell time and feels like a softer Tamca carbon.
More practice time is needed to fully understand the characteristics of the blade. It’s not recommended for beginner and intermediate players.
Overall, the Ice Cream Blade is a good offensive/attacking blade.
