The Xiom Omega VII Pro is a top-tier table tennis rubber designed for players who demand precision and power from their equipment. Noted for its exceptional speed rating of 93 and impressive spin capacity at 87, this rubber caters to the modern player who thrives on aggressive playstyle from various distances. With a sponge hardness of 47.5 degrees, it strikes a fine balance between responsiveness and control, making it ideal for both forehand and backhand shots.
In terms of tackiness, the Omega VII Pro has a relatively low rating of 1.7, which might lead some to believe it won’t generate significant spin. However, this rubber compensates for its lack of tackiness with an extremely grip-enhancing top sheet that produces highly effective topspin, especially during loops and counterattacks. Players transitioning from tacky rubbers like DHS Hurricane 8 have noted the rubber’s ability to maintain a high spin level, both on topspins and under spin situations, despite not feeling tacky to the touch.
The weight of the Omega VII Pro is categorized as medium, allowing for agile movements without sacrificing power. Durability is rated at 6.3, indicating that while it may not be the longest-lasting option, its performance remains consistent and reliable during its lifespan. For players seeking alternatives, the Tenergy 05 has been frequently mentioned as a comparable option, though many reviews suggest the Omega VII Pro offers a better value for its performance at a lower price point compared to the popular Tenergy line.
Have this on my forehand now, and it plays like a dream. I should add that it is glued to a (rather soft) Ma Long 5 all wooden blade, so I don’t feel the supposed 47.5 degrees of hardness. It feels like I am playing with a spinnier medium rubber that almost feels like Vega Japan, but much lighter.
Brush loops are wonderful, and serves are good. I tried my Omega VII Europe (on my DHS 301 blade) yesterday and in comparison, Europe feels like a tame dog compared to a wolf.
Review:
Currently, I am using the second sheet of this rubber, and I have a very positive opinion about it. It is fast and spiny, as well as light, high quality, and durable.
What impresses me most is its ability to produce topspins with a very low bounce near the end of the table. Looping on backspin with a forehand is phenomenal, with great control, a medium and long arc, and brutal finishers. However, it is not a rubber for beginners; one must have good skills to use it effectively.
Despite its 47.5-degree hardness, the rubber feels softer due to its elastic top sheet, producing a nice and crispy sound. At 40 euros for a top-end rubber, it offers excellent value in my country.
I really like the Omega Pro 5. However, when I decided to check out and buy the Omega Pro 7, I was totally disappointed. The ball flies erratically, and the grip is no better than the Omega Pro 5. Additionally, it constantly peels off from the Andro Treiber FO at the point of contact with the ball.
