All-wood
Excellent blade, offering very good control, good spin, and medium speed. It is a premium blade, unfortunately out of catalogue.
Very good blade, not only for beginners.
This is a blade that I own. My dad had it for 28 years, and now I own it. I will be turning 13 on 1/12/15. I am using Tenergy 80 on both sides.
It is a great blade with great control. It has a comfortable grip and is a very light blade, making it great for looping and chopping. I love this blade. It gives great control, good blocks, and is great for defending and attacking at mid-range.
It’s a very deadly racket with Tenergy 80 on both sides, with 9.4 spin + speed + Grubba Pro blade FL = deadly racket.
This blade is slow, making it ideal for defenders, beginners, and all-rounders due to its long dwell time, which allows for greater ball control. Despite its slow speed, it can generate massive spin when paired with spinny rubber. The anatomic handle provides a comfortable grip, although the flared handle may feel slightly small for some. When combined with faster rubbers such as Sriver, MarkV, or Bryce, the blade’s long dwell time gives players the impression that they can return almost anything. It is a solid slower blade from Butterfly.
An update to the review suggests that pairing this blade with T05 1.7 or 1.9 on the forehand side can enhance defensive chopping or strong loops/hitting. Additionally, combining it with T05 and SPs/anti/long pips on the reverse side creates a versatile combination racket that offers excellent control.
In the 1990s, there was an old top-of-the-line Grubba Pro ALL blade model with a flared handle. Similarly, older model Grubba Pro AN blades were made from high-quality materials. The finish was fine and smooth, and the blade was rather durable with no tendency to splinter.
However, the quality of this model seems to have deteriorated over the years. It is still a good blade for an all-round game, chopping and blocking well. Chinese long pimpled rubbers (OX / thin sponged) seem to work well when paired with this blade. So is the case with Andro Hexer HD. Stiga Chop and Drive suits the FH side well.
With the legendary Grubba dead and gone, the popularity of this blade is fading.
Coming from a Donic Defplay Senso, the Grubba blade is a nice step up for me. My chops are still good, but the forehand topspin has improved a lot. Using a Tenergy 05 FX on the forehand with a thickness of 1.7, I find the Grubba to be more accurate and consistent.
The blade is very good. It has a lot of vibration, but that does not bother me at all. It works even as an attack rubber for me, as I have torpedo on both sides. It has great feel and I recommend it to everyone, even attackers can try it.
The blade is suitable for beginners and defensive play. It has a very comfortable handle, making it easy to grip and control.
