Xiom Sigma 1 Pro

Rubber description:

This is a tensor rubber designed for offensive play, characterized by a high speed output and a noticeably soft feel during active strokes, despite a firm touch. It is frequently noted for its weight, which is on the heavier side, and its propensity to perform best when paired with woods or blades that are not overly rigid to maintain balance.

Playing Characteristics

  • Speed and Spin: The rubber offers high speed, particularly for power looping and mid-distance play. While it produces significant spin, it is generally described as having less raw spin potential than some premium counterparts, opting instead for a higher velocity and a more linear, controllable flight path.
  • Control and Dwell: Users report a generous sweet spot and high levels of control, making it effective for technical shots like flicking, blocking, and chopping. Dwell time is often characterized as being lower than some classic high-spin rubbers, which contributes to a lower throw angle and flatter trajectory.
  • Performance: It excels in the hands of attacking players who utilize proper stroke technique. The rubber provides a distinct, audible “click” sound during contact and is suitable for both forehand and backhand applications depending on the user’s preference for a faster, more direct playing style.

I am using this rubber on my backhand with a Stiga Carbo 7.6 WRB blade.

Firstly, people often recommend this as a Tenergy alternative, but it is not. It has a little less spin but more speed and control than Tenergy 05. However, it is different. I don’t call it an alternative; I give it the same status as Tenergy 05. The rubber may be better than Tenergy for players who like it and give it time. Don’t expect to know how it plays after five minutes. Get a sheet and play with it for a couple of months, and you will feel the difference.

It is a blessing for me on the backhand side. I switched from Tenergy and can feel my game improve. I get more spinny and powerful backhands on the table and more loops. It is definitely worth trying and can be better than Tenergy if it suits you.

Sigma Pro, which has spin and speed comparable to T05 and control similar to T64, surprised me.

Like most of the new 2012 Tensors, this rubber is heavy at 49g when cut. It feels too fast for me, coming from Omega IV Pro. It also has less dwell time and a lower throw. I prefer Omega IV Pro. In my view, this rubber could be good on a slower Allround blade or for all-out attackers.
