Gives an average usage value. Nice work. The Waldner version is much better in its category.

The World Champion 89’ series blades were made for the modern table tennis game. This blade is an OFF- to OFF blade when using Tibhar Evolution MX-S Max rubber on both sides. It offers excellent speed and control, perfect for the modern table tennis game.

The blade is well-balanced and has a nice polished satin-like finish. The flared handle is very comfortable to hold. It is made of Spruce, Carbon Fleece Zylon, Ayous, and Kiri.

Of the three blades in the series (Persson OFF+, Waldner OFF, & Appelgren AR+), the Waldner OFF inner-fiber blade is my favorite. It is a great blade for all-around play. Tabletennis11 has the best pricing for the WC89 Series blades.

Hitting Feeling (11.8/15)

The most immediate impression of the blade is its amazing dwell time. Somehow despite weighing in at a mere 78 grams (without rubbers), the blade has incredible control. It absorbs incoming spin effortlessly and allows for ample time to generate your own. This makes it incredibly powerful when looping, and the slightly soft feeling of the wood gives the ball exceptional dwell time on impact.

The blade is also very forgiving, making it a great choice for players of all skill levels. It has a large sweet spot and is not overly sensitive to mishits. This makes it a good option for players who are still developing their technique.

Control (12.9/15)

As mentioned earlier, the Yasaka Sweden Extra has incredible control. This is due in part to its low weight and soft feel. The blade is also very well balanced, which helps to increase stability and control.

Speed (11.5/15)

While the Yasaka Sweden Extra is not the fastest blade on the market, it still has plenty of speed for most players. It is especially well-suited for players who like to loop and counter-loop.

Spin (10.5/15)

The Yasaka Sweden Extra is a good spin blade, but it is not the best. It generates a moderate amount of spin, but it is not as powerful as some other blades. This is likely due to the blade’s soft feel.

Overall (11.7/15)

The Yasaka Sweden Extra is a great all-around blade that is suitable for a wide range of players. It has incredible control, making it a great choice for beginners and intermediate players. It also has enough speed and spin for advanced players. Overall, the Yasaka Sweden Extra is a great option for players who are looking for a versatile blade that can handle any style of play.

This blade is pure joy to play. It provides great feeling, control, and speed when you need it.

I don’t think it has anything to do with the all or even all+ declaration, but it is off-.

It is light with a large head, and the quality is great (the lens could be better, but it doesn’t affect the gameplay, just the visuals).

It has fine vibrations with just the right amount, so it can provide a nice feeling and precision. It will forgive you many mistakes because it is not so stiff, and this will affect its penetration power, so sometimes you need to activate your body. Paired with Omega 7 rubbers, it is a nice offensive tool.

Regards, D.

Off blade with incredible control. Fast but not excessively so. Pairs perfectly with Rakza 7 max FH and 2 mm on BH.

Excels in drive, short game, pushes, serves, and effortless ultra-spinny top spin on both FH and BH.

Ideal low weight, with my blade weighing 80 g. Superb build quality at a reasonable price. One of the best blades I have ever tried.

This is an absolutely perfect blade, the best I’ve ever played. I’ve played dozens of blades during the last 15 years, from Grubba ALL+, Primorac OFF-, Korbel OFF, Viscaria, Stiga Clipper, Donic Waldner Ultra Carbon, Nittaku Acoustic, Harimoto ALC, etc.

Comparing it to the blades mentioned above, it’s rather OFF- than ALL+ (between Primorac and Korbel), so it’s not only for all-around players but also for offensive players who get their power from the body and arm, not the equipment itself.

That said, I’m able to play really powerful topspins with this blade, both close to and far from the table. At the same time, it has great control, consistency, and “feeling.” I would describe it as a combo of the best features of Butterfly Viscaria and Korbel. It has a similar feeling, a bit of vibration, and good control like Korbel (but even better) and the great elasticity and consistency of Viscaria with an even bigger sweet spot.

It’s not as speedy as Korbel and Viscaria (but the difference is not as big as the “ALL+” label may suggest), but it holds the ball longer on the racket, which gives a great volume of rotation and control.

A soft feeling and good for children (poor quality pens).

I’ve been playing with the AWC89 for nearly two years now. I periodically experiment with other blades, but I always return to this one. It provides an exceptional feeling when paired with Rozena or Tenergies rubbers, enabling precise and effortless topspin play, both hard and soft. Blocking is equally comfortable and accurate. The blade’s performance is simply outstanding, delivering consistent and reliable results.

However, the flared handle is notably small, prompting me to use an ST handle with grip tape for a more comfortable grip. As a result, I must deduct one point due to the diminutive handle size.

This is an excellent blade if you are an all-around or controlled offensive player. The all+ rating is accurate, but with such an abundance of gears, this blade can be pushed from defensive to off with ease. The combination of wood and composite material is really well-matched, giving small, high-frequency vibrations which let you feel the ball on the blade and provide you with a comparatively “woody” feeling.

The large sweet spot increases consistency across your entire range of strokes, resulting in more balls on the table. With P2 F/H and Maxx P B/H, I could generate loads of spin, and the great control meant I could concentrate more on placement (much to my opponent’s detriment).

Speed is mostly moderate, but fast loops/drives/smashes are possible, but I feel this blade might struggle beyond mid-distance. So if you want an extremely capable blade for variable play tending off, then I can highly recommend the Appelgren W/C 89.

#10September 2017

The best feeling of all my blade collection. It is very light, and its control is the best aspect of this blade without lacking speed. It is very comfortable and really well done with good quality wood and perfect construction. I’m quite impressed with its quality. It is not the most beautiful racket, but it is one of the best constructed that I’ve had.

#11June 2017

The blade has a slow speed, making it suitable for slow-paced gameplay. However, it performs poorly for topspin techniques, resulting in the ball landing either in the net or hitting the table. Despite its slow speed, the blade offers excellent control, making it suitable for lining with Acuda S2.

#12February 2016

There will never be any blade that is perfect, but this has to be one of the closest ones. I played with Spirit St before this with slower rubbers (M1 Turbo, Max). Now I have paired this with the MX-P 2.1 BH and FH.

It is totally amazing! So long, Tenergy 05! The blade gives perfect control and speed ratio. Perfect for looping. Really good fit in the hand! ST handle.

Great feeling! It’s a very good upgrade of Donic Appelgren Senso V1. It has exactly the same control but with a little more speed. Now it became my favorite blade and the Senso V1 has been left in its case. :)

#14Long Time Ago...

#15Long Time Ago...

The blade provides superior feeling and control. However, it may not be fast enough for aggressive advanced attackers. It is an excellent choice for a chopping or combination setup. The quality and construction of the blade are outstanding. I intend to keep using it with long pips or as a collectible item.

#16November 2024

This blade has the identical construction as the Nittaku S-CZ. It’s so good I had to order another one.

I am now playing with DHS H3 prov 39 Orange on the FH and /29 Dragon F medium hard on the BH. The FH is perfect, the BH is still a work in progress but this one is pretty good.

Again TT11 thank you for the best service in the universe.

Cheers
L-zr.

#17March 2021

This blade is pure joy to play. More offense than all, great feel, lots of gears. Big head size with a big sweet spot. Nice quality. Not a speed monster, but it has the power to punch. Recommended.

#18August 2020

Very good blade, excellent control, and powerful attacks.

#19June 2015

The blade is beautiful, but the German flag on the back is easy to fall off and doesn’t stick very well.

#20January 2015

Very high quality work, suitable for all playing styles. Beginners and advanced players can play. Comfortable in hand (FL). Completely satisfied, good control, speed, and light weight.

#21November 2014

It is easy to make spin and has good control.

I think this blade is for advanced players, but it can be a good

choice for beginners because of its lightweight and control.

#22April 2025

This blade is perfect for people who have only used all-wood blades and want to make the switch to carbon. Though it’s an outer carbon blade, it has great control. I would recommend this blade to anyone who wants to switch from all-wood to outer carbon.

#23May 2024

If you think that most outer blades are too fast but still want one, this is for you.

A little flex and a soft outer layer work excellently for a hard(ish) rubber. I use Rakza Z on FH and Neattec X-5 M on BH with this one. Rakza 7 is perfect but Neottec X-5 is just a little bit too fast for me.

Cheers,
L-ZR.

#24January 2023

It is a very consistent blade. I have used it with Coppa Gold and Platinum. It plays well, but the throw of the ball is too high for my liking.

#25February 2022

Speed as stated - on ALL+
Strong impulse in hand.
Good control.

#26March 2021

Well-controlled.

#27January 2020

The DONIC WORLD CHAMPION 89 Appelgren is a light blade for all-around players.
I have used it for a month. I can tell you that it’s a reactive blade when you put the required power and still has good control. Though it is a fast carbon blade, of course not as much as the Waldner WC 89 or some others OFF carbon blades.
The fact that it is light eases the recovery and facilitates the “small game”.
The blade makes a particular noise at impact when you start to put some power, which I find quite interesting in order to adjust your shots accordingly.
Good ALL / ALL+ blade.

#28January 2020

I have played with many blades. Allround minus to offensive ++. This one is very controlled but loses a lot of spin in the process. Even compared to far slower blades. Don’t know why. It perplexes everybody. Shots that look like they are full of spin are many times only 20 percent of the expected spin. The good thing is, it confuses my opponents. Win-lose, I guess?

#29August 2018

I play with many All and All+ blades, and this one is awesome. Really good control, excellent feel for a carbon blade. As an All+ blade, it has nice speed. For pips users on BH like me, I recommend it.

#30May 2018

Very good control, attack, and modern defense.

#31June 2017

I have mixed feelings about this blade. Playing characteristics are great. Good control, large sweet spot, maybe not as “All+” as I thought it might be. More in the OFF- to OFF range. What really disappoints me, though, are the lenses in the handle. The “Appelgren” lens on the forehand is countersunk quite a bit and is actually pretty uncomfortable. And the “Made in Germany” lens on the backhand side keeps falling out. I’ve glued it back 2 times already using different glues. It’s a sticker - pretty cheap feeling. And when it actually is attached, it also protrudes enough that it becomes a little irritable on the palm of the hand. It’s a shame really. If the handle was crafted a little better, it would be a great blade. For the price point - doesn’t scream quality.

#32March 2017

Very light. Very good control. There is some small vibration, which is good for feeling. It is a very good choice for someone who is looking for a carbon blade but in the all+ class.

#33December 2016

I bought this blade because of the reviews and the fancy description of Donic; however, I am very disappointed in its performance. It has a vibration that carbon blades are not supposed to have. Forehand looping is bad, and it is the worst or almost the worst carbon blade I have ever had.

#34December 2016

As a beginner at table tennis again after a 30-year hiatus, I was looking for a blade with the best control and decent speed. Additionally, I wanted something in composite material. I found it all in this Donic Appelgren World Champion '89 All+. Right from the get-go, I felt totally comfortable with the blade, and it has really helped me to develop my strokes. For beginners, I can’t think of a better blade; this one can do everything, and the ball will always reach the destination you want it to go. For more advanced players, it can be a good choice if paired with really fast rubbers. High-quality product!

Ochen’ khoroshee osnovanie, ochen’ kontrol’noe, khorosho igraet s gladkimi nakladkami. Na oborotnoi ruke khorosho igraiut korotkie shchipy XIOM VEGA SPO. Na forhend, Xiom Omega V Asia.

#36June 2016

I previously used an all-round blade and was looking for something a bit faster, yet still maintaining good control. The Donic World Champion 89 Appelgren all+ already had very good reviews and was available at a very competitive price from tabletennis11, therefore an obvious choice for me. I much prefer the lighter weight of this blade over my old one. It also feels very well balanced and has been an instant success in my league matches. I’m mainly a blocking/counter hitting player and find this blade, combined with Andro Rasant Beat rubber on both sides, has improved my game considerably. I’m much more consistent against strong looping players and can achieve very good control of the angles around the table with my blocking.

#37April 2015

Speed is ok, but control is great with the right rubber. Rakza 7 is ideal for me… But you may need a faster one for forehand to finish the point…

#38December 2014

This blade has very good control and spin, high speed, and an ultra-wide sweet zone.
