Nittaku Fastarc S1

Nittaku Fastarc S1 is by far the best FH rubber I have tried for the Yinhe T11+ blade. It is great for topspins and mid distance looping. Flat hits are powerful, and services are good, short, and spinny (except for Hurricane Neo3, which was great for service). The best part is that I can open any ball with forehand, including heavily underspin balls.

Time for me to come home, to my S1. As a coach, I’ve tried almost every rubber and blade imaginable, with countless combinations of players’ bats. I’m finally done searching for the mythical “it rubber” that will supposedly obliterate your opponents. Don’t fall for this nonsense anymore. Fancy equipment won’t magically make you the player you aspire to be.

The S1 is a well-rounded, controlled rubber that I keep returning to. One of its key features is its lightness, allowing players to hit through the ball with greater speed, generating ample spin. Trust me as a coach: don’t waste your money on expensive high-end rubbers. Say goodbye to those fancy options and get yourself some S1.

Out of curiosity, I decided to pair my Nittaku Violin blade with the Nittaku S-1 1.8mm on both sides, replacing my T05fx.

Initially, some people mentioned that the S-1 was not as fast as the T05fx. However, I found the S-1 to be noticeably faster. My opponents, accustomed to blocking my slower but spinny topspins, struggled with the increased pace.

The S-1 is incredibly lightweight, which is a definite advantage. However, the main downside for me was the reduced spin potential. Aggressive topspins were only slightly affected, but opening loops lacked the spin I was accustomed to. The ball did not soak into the sponge as deeply and shot away comparatively quickly.

If you rely on variation and a wide range of sidespin and topspin on your over-the-table balls, the Nittaku S-1 may not be the ideal choice.

On the other hand, long pushes were fast and effective, giving my opponents difficulty if their movement was imperfect. However, pushing short was extremely challenging, and this, combined with the reduced over-the-table spin, prompted me to remove the S-1 from my backhand after a few weeks of use.

Blocking was relatively easy with the S-1, and receiving serves was not significantly impacted by the opponent’s spin. Overall, the rubber provided a relatively forgiving experience, but ultimately it did not meet my specific playing style.

I love this rubber! It’s fast (though not the fastest), easy to control, and decently spinny. I used it on the FH Yasaka Goiabao 5 and can return any serve consistently. The rubber is not affected by spin at all. Hitting away from the table is consistent and powerful. It’s solid for flat hits and can smack any ball right back.

12/29/2017: Amazing rubber. I have it on Timo Boll ALC. Super speed and control. Spin is good too. Very good for serve receives. I have the black on the BH side, on the FH, I have Tenergy 05. I think I don’t know how to use Tenergy 05 because I feel Fastarc S1 is way better in all aspects.

#6July 2018

I had trouble finding a rubber with hardness and medium speed, high throw that will replace my Andro Rasant in FH (this is out of production). I tried Tibhar ELP, but it was too fast and very direct. Tibhar ELS was very fast and heavy, T05 FX was very fast without control and difficult blocking. I then tried Fast Arc S1 and I was impressed. Blocking, topspin, and insensitivity to spin were all good. This will be my rubber for many years, I hope it does not stop being produced.

Update: It seems delicate but is quite the opposite, very resistant and durable. This polyvalent rubber works well in FH and BH, is quite fast, has impressive durability, and is insensitive to spin with a medium angle.

#7May 2018

I’ve been using this rubber on my backhand for a couple of years now. Unlike what the “S” stands for in its name, it’s not very fast. However, it’s got consistency and control unlike any other rubbers, which is the reason I’m using it for my backhand.

It has a quite a soft sponge with a grippy and soft topsheet that grabs the ball and produces a ton of spin. For me, the softness doesn’t fit my play style for the forehand but is perfect for the back.

The downside is that the topsheet is brittle. The edge starts cracking and breaking after 3~4 weeks of use, and the rubber itself is good for about 6~8 weeks. TT11 has it for “4 for 3” deal as well as tt-japan, which has it for a pretty low price. For the price you can buy it’s a steal even with lower durability! Still lasts longer than Tenerygy.

Unlike its big brother, Fastarc G1, the Fastarc S1 put a smile on my face the first day I used it. It is fast, has lots of grip, and generates very good spin.

As Vega Pro reminds me of a tamed T05, the Fastarc S1 reminds me of a tamed T64. It has one of the best performance-to-price ratios of any rubber. I use it on my backhand reversed penhold (RPB) blade.

#9April 2018

Fastarc S-1 is my go-to backhand rubber. I am not claiming that this is the best backhand rubber ever, but it is the rubber most suitable to my playing style and skill level.

The topsheet is soft, not tacky, but grippy. The sponge feels medium-soft. The rubber is dynamic and can generate a lot of spin, combined with a medium-high throw angle and plenty of control. These characteristics make this rubber super easy to play with.

The best part is that this rubber is cheaper than most tensor rubbers. I would rate Fastarc S-1 as 9.5 out of 10, considering its good performance and great value.

#10August 2017

I bought S1 1.8 black rubber with a bat called Liu Shiwen to play with. The S1 Fastarc black rubber is very consistent on my forehand bat, as mentioned earlier. It gets great drive when hit on my forehand and has a great serve that can trouble your opponent. It has all sorts of loops, great control, drive, flat hits, smashes, and spin shots that can be put in when you have good technique. It is one of the best forehand rubbers I have played so far and I definitely recommend it. I think it is better than most T energy rubbers, apart from T energy 64 which is similar to S1 but a bit lighter. I am going to buy S1 red rubber since I like the black rubber so much. I hope the red is as good as the black rubber.

#11June 2017

Unbelievable rubber, as the title suggests, is very fast and spinny and has a lovely arc for clearance. Loopers must try this rubber! It offers excellent control. The topsheet has a high content of natural rubber with a high elastic feel. The sponge is porous but with tiny pores. It has a great catapult effect. Pushing requires good technique, but all other offensive shots are easily made.

It is definitely not ideal for beginners. This rubber has a high throw, maybe the same as or higher than Tenergy. More shops should stock this in the UK; I had to order from Europe.

Review:

Nittaku rubber delivers an excellent performance, as expected. While slow, it offers exceptional spin and control. Paired with a 7-ply wood blade, it effortlessly lifts backspin balls, ideal for backhand play.

However, due to its soft sponge, quick backhand rallies may encounter slow, low-force balls, reminiscent of short-pips or Chinese rubber. This necessitates an adjustment in technique.

Overall, this product provides complete satisfaction and deserves a 9.5/10 rating as a backhand rubber.

#13January 2017

The Nittaku Fastarc S-1 is very soft to the touch, much more so than its 45-degree sponge would suggest. It also weighs only 43 grams when cut to the 157 x 150 mm test blade, making it lighter than any other 40-45 degree rubber tested. The topsheet is extremely soft, and its durability is a concern.

During gameplay, the S-1 proved to be the softest and slowest of the Fastarc rubbers. Despite its “speed first” description, it exhibited a subdued woody feeling during aggressive shots.

I’ve bought 3 sheets of this rubber and love it. I have 2 max (2.0 mm) sheets in both red and black, and a sheet of 1.8mm in black.

This is my favorite FH looping rubber. It’s very fast, lightweight, has good control, and provides pretty good spin. Best of all, it’s easy to loop and great for smashing. Its medium hardness is suitable for almost any blade. The black is firmer than the red and slightly faster, and the 1.8mm black is even more firm.

The only negative is the lack of feel if you are using carbon blades.

Here is my review:

  • Speed = 9.5
  • Spin = 9
  • Grip = 8.8
  • Control = 9
  • Hardness = 3.5 (red), 4 (black)
  • Cut weight = 42.5g/44 (red/blk 2mm)
  • Durability = good
  • Feel = vague, red was very curly when re-gluing (hard to stick), blk more flat, harder & faster

Overall rating: 9.4

Blk 1.8mm = 40.9g cut, slightly harder & slightly slower.

One of the best rubbers from Nittaku for the all-round attacker is the Nittaku Fastarc G-1. It offers good speed and is a lightweight rubber. When paired with an Off- blade, this rubber will give you great results. You can be confident in your shots with the Nittaku Fastarc G-1.

#16November 2015

The rubber provides a good balance of speed and spin. It is fast, but not excessively so, making it suitable for a wide range of players. Additionally, the rubber offers excellent spin capabilities, enabling players to create sharp angles and deceptive shots.

On the backhand, this rubber excels in flicking techniques. Its responsiveness and control make it easy to execute quick and precise flicks, providing players with a versatile offensive weapon.

#17June 2015

This is a very good Off- rubber with soft sponge and is probably one of the best from Nittaku. I used a few pieces and liked it much better than the more expensive G-1.

However, its performance cannot compare with new generation rubbers like Bty. 05FX, Xiom Omega V, or Donic JP03.

#18October 2014

Just tried a Nittaku Carbon Flame blade with this rubber in 2.0 thickness on both sides. It provides good speed away from the table and excellent smash near the table. In 2.0 thickness, it weighs 41.5 grams on a blade measuring 150 x 157 mm. I prefer using it on the forehand side.

#19May 2014

First time using Nittaku Fastarc S-1 and my first impression was, WOW! I love it for both my forehand and backhand.

With this rubber, you can generate great spins as far as looping, chopping, and on a serve.

It has amazing control, even a beginner could use this rubber with a slightly thinner sponge.

This is by far the best rubber I have ever used! :)

#20October 2013

Best rubber for me. I prefer this over any of the Tenergy line. I think that for an overall rubber where you have it all, spin, speed, and control, this is the one. It is amazing. I simply control everything well with this one.

#21March 2013

This is my forehand rubber on STIGA CC5. The ball feel is great. It is fast and requires skill to control the ball and keep it low, as the throw angle is quite high. It is almost as fast as Bryce Speed but definitely has more spin.

#22December 2012

Great rubber. I have backhand and forehand on Innerforce ALC and I like it a lot. It has great ball feel, good spin and speed, and is very good when playing against long pips, easy to lift underspin.

The weight is the main thing about this rubber. It’s light for such a powerful rubber. I can’t compare it to Tenergy and other top tensors, not because it’s worse, it’s just different. I will keep playing with it and enjoy every minute. It’s a special rubber.

#23September 2012

Black uses it with a Gergely blade as a forehand. This is a looper’s dream rubber, easy, and effortless for underspin counter style. It is not so good for flat driving, but once you exert enough time to practice, I think this is a well-all-around rubber by Nittaku.

Initial impression: Its top surface is slightly tacky and has a high-quality natural rubber look. Once you try rolling the table tennis balls on its rubber, it reacted similarly to the amount of force you put in. This is not the case with Chinese rubber. A must-try rubber for those who want to take topspin and spin to another level…

#24May 2012

This is my backhand rubber. It offers a nice high throw, making my backhand loops easier to land. It’s quite a fast rubber but still provides plenty of spin. It’s not the best for short games, but it’s more than capable with good technique. From its appearance, it looks identical to my Rakza 7, including the sponge. I suppose they’re both made in Germany, in the same factory.

#25February 2012

I have tried this with Bty Zhang Jike for my FH. Max

BH: Mark V HPS 2.0

The price is lower compared to Tenergy.

Played it for two hours. The rubber’s characteristics include a medium to hard sponge; the speed is very fast, similar to Bryce speed. Because of its medium tackiness, its spin is great, especially on serves.

If you want to take your game to another level, you must have this rubber!

#26March 2025

I love Fastarc G1, but I thought I would give S1 a try to see if it generated more spin. If there is a difference, it is too subtle for me to notice, but it is still a fine rubber.

#27January 2024

Брал для моей игры на левой стороне. Очень цепкая резина.

#28April 2023

It 100% matches the online reviews, lightweight, good power, and it could be easily hit through (might be too easy). I will try 2.0 instead of 1.8 next time. It was for my BH penhold.

#29February 2023

If you are an intermediate offensive player like myself, take the Fasrarc rubbers and start working on your skills. My playing level has gone up and I love it!

#30October 2022

Not as resilient as Donic, and edges rot more easily than Donic.

#31August 2022

As an intermediate player, I selected this S-1 for my BH - good speed and control. Not very fast and not too bouncy either. Excellent for block and push.

#32March 2022

The base song! I’ve been playing for forty years. I’ve tried a bunch of bases, in my years just magnificent control and striking power is super! If not for this. Noisy scuffle, I would have ordered a seven even more. Thanks to the guys for the superb assembly.

#33January 2022

Bought this on the buy 3 get 4 deal. Very good speed and control.

#34December 2021

Used on BH and paired with Nittaku S-5 blade. This is one of my favorite rubbers!

#35August 2020

Good for backhand and has good control and spin. However, I felt it is a bit softer than I would like, so I replaced it with C-1.

#36August 2020

I bought this rubber because of its unique characteristics: very lightweight while still delivering a very good balance of speed, spin, and control. As such, it is a perfect rubber to help me learn RPB backhand. I bought the 1.8mm thickness which further helps in control. It can be used on the forehand too, producing very consistent strokes but less threatening when compared to using a harder spinner rubber, as commented by my sparring partner.

#37June 2020

I use it on an OFF blade for backhand. I really like it - good block, not bouncy, easy to play short balls, good control, and enough dwell time. For me, there is no better rubber for my backhand.

#38May 2020

Received the Nittaku Fastarc S-1 delivery on time, the quality was excellent and the packaging was good. 5 stars!!!.

#39March 2020

This rubber is light and fast. Very easy to smash any incoming ball. You can easily counter-smash with this rubber. Suits players who are close to the table. Not sensitive to incoming ball spin, which makes it easy to return serves.

#40February 2020

Perfect fit rubber for BH and fast shipping from the seller! The best!

#41June 2018

S-1’s topsheet is not grippy, the throw angle is flat, and it’s not sensitive to incoming spin at all.
So it’s a great blocking rubber. Could be a great solution for weak backhands…
but if you do brush loop than stay away! It’s like Calibra Sound, it just doesn’t react, doesn’t grab the ball.

#42April 2018

I use this gripper, softer rubber on my backhand, and I really can get a powerful shot off across the table on my backhand. I feel like anytime the ball goes off, it is 100% on me for making a poor technique shot. The rubber does what you tell it to do.

I got the 1.8 for a bit more control, but I can’t suppose the speed has diminished much, if at all, from max thickness. Definitely recommend for those who loop close to the table. This will get the job done.

#43April 2018

It is very light, but the price is too good and the performance is of very high quality.

#44February 2018

좋은 러버 대한민국 화이팅!

#45December 2017

Rubber with great precision in attacks and good speed, I have nothing to complain about and recommend to those interested.

#46October 2017

Soft, spinny rubber with control, suitable also for developing players.
It seems to be more spinny than fast.

#47August 2017

I bought the S1 1.8 black rubber with a bat called Liu Shiwen to play with. The S1 Fastarc black rubber is very consistent on my forehand as mentioned earlier. It has great drive when hit on my forehand and a great serve to trouble your opponent. It provides all sorts of loops, great control, drive, Flat hit, smash, and spin shots that can be executed when you have good technique. It is one of the best forehand rubbers I have played with so far. I definitely recommend it; I think it is better than most T energy rubbers, apart from the T energy 64 which is similar to the S1, just a bit lighter than the T 64. I am going to buy the S1 red rubber since I like it so much on the black rubber; I hope the red is as good as the black.

#48May 2017

I love this rubber for my backhand - it’s spinny and medium-fast.

#49April 2017

This is a good backhand rubber with the right blade to showcase the full potential of this rubber. It’s a medium throw rubber that is suitable for backhand and can also be used for forehand if you prefer a medium dwell time. You can create good rotation if you use the perfect stroke.

#50January 2017

我用来打正手拍,速度快而且容易控制。

#51November 2016

Speed is very good and very controllable. With proper technique, spin is very good, but not as accessible as with Xiom Omega V Europe.

#52November 2016

Bought several sheets of Fastarc S-1 from TT11 - all the 1.8 thick rubber was good, and the 2.0 black rubber was also. However, the Fastarc S-1 in the 2.0 thickness started to separate from the sponge on 2 sheets. Not sure why.

#53July 2016

Soft, light, and controlled rubber. A good choice for a controlled attack player.

#54April 2016

Good soft sponged rubber by Nittaku. The top sheet is nominally tacky but provides above-average spin. The speed is all there. A bit springy feeling at first, but as the rubber ages and you minimally adjust your play, it provides a good feel. Many gears that play well short and also away from the table. A bit pricey, but if you can get it at TT11 on their weekly special sale (I recommend that you subscribe), you will be really happy and feel really smart and good about yourself. Cheers.

#55March 2016

Delivery to Alabama takes three weeks, but this is the real deal. I love this rubber - soft, spinny, and fast. Very similar to Flyatt Soft and Stiga Airoc S, a little harder and a little faster though. The one drawback is that the Fastarc S-1 chips on the edges a lot quicker than Flyatt Soft or Stiga Airoc S.

#56January 2016

Nittaku Fastarc S-1 is an excellent rubber for any level player, with very good speed and control too. Thanks for the TT-11 promotional price.

#57November 2015

Best rubber so far for me. It is fast, spinny with good control, soft, and light rubber. I like soft and light rubber. I have been playing with this rubber for over four months and now a wear out spot is visible on the surface. This rubber is for offensive players. And it is very good for beginners too, if they use a thinner rubber due to its very good control.

#58November 2015

This is the best rubber I ever used, very good for all-around players. It has good speed and control and is good for close table players. Good price and fast delivery. Definitely I will order again.

#59October 2015

Seems nice, control for a fast rubber.
Still need to use it longer to be sure.

#60September 2015

Good for smashing, fair for looping, soft sponge which is great for close-to-table control. Not a lot of spin compared to G1.

#61September 2015

OTTIMA GOMMA PER IL ROVESCIO, IL BLOCCO, IL TOPSPIN E LO SMASH: PRECIS E POTENTI.

#62July 2015

Speed, spin, control, light weight. It has it all!

#63June 2015

Corrected text:

It is a good product at this price point. It is good for blocking with the backhand, but if you are looking to attack frequently with your backhand and spin with power, I would not recommend it.

#64March 2015

It’s good for BH, my blade is YASAKA KYO, and S1 is light, spin, good control, and makes a wonderful curve. Nice price and performance!

#65March 2015

I have been using this rubber for some time. A high quality Nittaku rubber, it has excellent control. I like the “arc” part of it, as it allows for easier topspin from close to the table. The product is reasonably priced at Tabletennis11.com.

#66December 2014

Blade: Donic Senso Ultra Carbon - JO Shape
This rubber with my blade feels perfect. I can serve, drive, spin with minimal effort, and I can easily control the spin that I will apply to the ball and the trajectory where the ball will go.

This rubber is very fast but a little bit faster than Donic Acuda S1.

#67September 2014

Not much to say; I ordered 2 Nittaku Fatarc S-1 and that is what I received. I am no expert in rubber evaluation, but this product appears to be of good quality; so say the people at Nittaku. Tacked on a Nittaku Acoustic, I will need some time to get used to the faster and longer arc than my DHS A6002.

#68July 2014

Review text:

On Backhand: good power, easy to lift against backspin, you have to be careful when pushing, ball goes a bit deep (unintended)
Forehand: It’s easy playing with this rubber, lots of gears, nice spin, for my forehand (beginner) the fastarc G1 1.8mm is the better option (more control and a lower flight path.)
Rubber is very suited to use with the new plastic ball!

#69July 2014

Hvala!

#70June 2014

Great rubber, I have FH on Innerforce ALC and I like it a lot. Great ball feel, good spin and speed. Very good when playing against long pips, easy to lift under spin. The weight is the main thing about this rubber, it’s light for such a powerful rubber. Can’t compare it to Tenergy and other top tensors not because it’s worse, it’s just different. I will keep playing with it and enjoy every minute. One special rubber.

#71April 2014

Same as its description. Good for beginners and intermediate players to build up their technique.

#72February 2014

Fast, great topspin rubber. Could do with a little bit more spin, but there is a G1 in this series that is meant to be the Grip version of this rubber series.

#73December 2013

This rubber has been recommended to lots of penholder players who practice RBH technique. The rubber is soft, lightweight with good speed and spin. Relatively speaking, the strength of this rubber is lower than some heavier rubbers such as FXP, Blue Fire, etc. Thus, it is suitable for amateur players with smaller strength, especially good for pen holders RBH strokes which demand good speed and spin but less strength.

#74October 2013

I have been using this on my FH on Nittakku Violin and I totally love the control and feeling of this rubber. I have been struggling to get the required spin with some of the other rubbers on really fast strokes which I immediately got with Fast Arc S1 possibly because it is softer - I do not know the reason but I am really enjoying playing with this rubber for now. One question I had for anybody else using this rubber is - is there even a Max size? Everywhere I see it is listed as super thick (2.0) isn’t there 2.2 mm (super thick)? That would be wonderful to have.

#75August 2013

I have this on an acoustic blade and let me just say… For my forehand, there is no better combination. Allows for extremely fast and spinny loops. In my opinion, it’s a little too bouncy for the backhand, making it a bit difficult to control on more passive shots. Though it’s excellent with quicker backhand strokes.

The durability is also extremely good. I used it for about 9 months, 2-5 days a week, and it retained much of its speed, though the sponge did get a lot softer after the first month or so. The top sheet never got slick (remaining grippy) as I’ve noticed happen to many other rubbers.

#76June 2013

Fastarc S-1 in 2.0 on my Donic Waldner Dotec Carbon blade is a marvel… the best combination.

#77May 2013

Excellent rubbers for table tennis players looking to improve their game. The tackiness of the rubber provides great spin and control, while the sponge allows for a good balance of speed and power. Overall, highly recommend for players of all levels.
