For intermediate players with a taste for hinoki, this blade is a great choice. It excels at drives and smashes, and is also good at loops. Blocking is a breeze, and it has a good short game. It pairs well with hurricanes and hybrid rubbers.

The blade has that distinct hinoki catapult effect. It is usually better to pair it with mid-hard or harder sponges. The blade is noticeably head heavy with H3N '39 & Rakza Z 2.0 attached, with a combined weight of 190 grams, the blade alone weighing 87 grams.

With H3NPBS40 and O7CG, a 7-ply blade differs significantly from a 1-ply blade in terms of feel and performance. This blade may lack power, possibly falling in the ALL+/OFF- range. It’s recommended to read reviews before purchasing. The reviewer continues to search for the 1-ply feel of their previous Nittaku 1-ply Jpen, which they sold 35 years ago and regret selling.

This is one of the best all wood blades out there. It has decent speed, making it very controllable and very good for close and mid-distant attacks. Highly recommended!

My blade has seven plies of heavenly hinoki, all of which are from the oldest tree in Japan. Hinoki from Japanese women is the best. Just like I said, my girlfriend is the most beautiful in the world and must have a tiny p…y. If your ball goes into the net, don’t blame your girlfriend or friend. You just need more exercise.

Coming from Yasaka YEO, I initially classified this blade as a standard “7 ply blade” akin to DHS P7 or Stiga Clipper. However, I was profoundly mistaken. As a seasoned user of 5 ply hardwood blades for over two years, I discovered this blade offers superior control to Yasaka YEO in both feel and looping. However, this advantage comes at the cost of some speed, which is compensated by increased spin on powerlooping. Consequently, this blade qualifies as a loop-oriented OFF- blade.

To my surprise, it provides a comparable feel to Yasaka YEO, eliminating the need for any significant technique adjustments. Its weight distribution is nearly identical to YEO, despite being thicker and heavier. This may be attributed to its smaller blade area, requiring less rubber coverage.

[Update]

After nearly a year of testing, I have concluded that this blade is not compatible with traditional or Chinese rubbers. These rubbers render the blade insufficiently powerful to terminate rallies. While I still appreciate its feel and control, I will experiment further with tensor rubbers.

Suitable for players who want a Hinoki catapult feel but with a weight under 95g. Provides a soft and stiff feel with some flex, making it ideal for controlled offensive topspin play, opening loops, counter loops, passive and active blocks on the backhand. It also aids in developing backhand technique due to its forgiving nature and large sweet spot.

It is a fantastic blade, very good for looping. Plays very well close and mid distance. Initially, I struggled with control, but that was because I had Nimbus Soft on the forehand, which I found is not suitable for this blade. I recently switched to Acuda S1 Turbo, and the control improved drastically. Use medium-hard sponge rubbers for this blade and avoid soft ones.

My second CPEN blade has given me much fun. The control on this blade is unbelievable. I have it set up with 729-08ES for forehand and backhand.

Seventh Heaven Plies of Pure Hinoki Heaven - exactly as Nittaku described it!

I just can’t believe how much CONTROL is dripping in this paddle! It’s really confidence & awe inspiring and it lets me take the calculated and risky shots when milliseconds matter the most during intense play.

I thought the Zhang Jike ALC w T80FX had control - buddy let me tell you this blade is all about CONTROL and extremely controlled for that matter.

Ball placement is awesome! You can make your opponent run from one side of the court/table to the other because of it and it let’s you set up your attack for the next shot!

Looping, pushing, flicking, chopping, and smashing, you name it, this blade can and will do it! The only thing I wish I did was carefully read and listen to the reviews below and actually paired it with hard to medium-hard sponge rubbers.

I like the Nittaku Refoma 2.1 mm that I have on both sides right now, but I feel like it could definitely use some help with speed, power, and explosiveness, especially during serves.

This is why I will be ordering it with the Nittaku Fastarc S-1’s here very shortly! Can’t wait to get it and I will add an updated review of the blade with the rubber combination!

Thank you, Paddle Palace & my product specialist and advisor, David, for the awesome suggestions and quick service! Cheers!

A good blade. I use it as a second blade (first being Stiga Intensity NCT). Overall, I’m satisfied with this blade. I use it with XIOM Sigma I Europe 2.0 mm on both sides. It has good speed and control, low vibration, and can generate good spin with appropriate rubbers. It works well with medium-hard rubbers. It’s not a top-notch blade, but it’s worth every penny you pay for it. You can play quite high-level table tennis with this “popular” blade!

Good for topspin.

Very soft blade with some vibrations. It’s much softer than most 7-ply blades.

#14November 2009

This is an excellent choice for those looking for an all wood all+/off- hinoki blade. It carries all the great characteristics of other all wood hinoki blades such as high control, dwell time, and fast smashes. For me, this blade excels in looping and drop shots. But it also serves, pushes, and blocks well.

As the previous reviewer noted, this blade does not pair well with soft rubbers. I use Tenergy05 fh and was using Nimbus Sound at first, but the soft Tibhar rubber made the setup unpredictable. I quickly upgraded to Tibhar Sinus with much better results. And because this blade is made of soft wood, it dents pretty easily, but that’s to be expected from any hinoki blade.

#15February 2009

This blade is constructed from 7-ply hinoki wood, providing a soft feel and high dwell time.

For players seeking an ALL+ all-wood blade, this option is highly recommended. However, it’s important to note that pairing this blade with very soft rubbers may result in an overly mushy combination. Medium-hard sponges are a more suitable pairing.

The handle of this blade is notably thin compared to those from other manufacturers. Despite this, it offers a comfortable and user-friendly grip.

#16August 2024

Not as soft as expected. In comparison to a thick hinoki blade, this one plays more like a conventional blade. In fact, it behaves like an outer carbon blade but without the carbon feel. Good choice for anyone currently playing with an outer carbon looking for more control, or anyone planning to upgrade to outer carbon in the future.

#17July 2023

I have been playing with this blade for 10 years and I like it a lot because it is the right one for me. It is a blade for control and not for speed, especially for the game next to the table and not from behind.

As an intermediate-level table tennis player, I recently had the opportunity to try out the Nittaku Septear table tennis blade, and I have to say that I was impressed with its performance.

One of the standout features of this blade is its versatility. It has a good balance between power and control, which makes it suitable for a variety of playing styles. I found that it allowed me to generate a decent amount of speed and spin on my shots, while still maintaining good touch and feel for executing more delicate shots.

The blade’s design was also well thought out. It has a sleek look to it, and the handle was comfortable to hold. I didn’t experience any hand fatigue or discomfort during extended playing sessions, which was great.

Another positive aspect of the Septear is its price point. While it’s not the cheapest blade on the market, it’s still reasonably priced, which makes it a good choice for intermediate-level players who are looking to upgrade their equipment without breaking the bank.

One potential drawback of the blade is that it may not provide enough power for more aggressive players who rely heavily on attacking shots. However, for intermediate-level players who are still developing their playing style, the Septear is a great choice that can help them improve their game.

Overall, I would highly recommend the Nittaku Septear for intermediate-level players who are looking for a versatile blade that can provide both power and control at an affordable price point. It’s a great choice for players who are still developing their playing style and looking to improve their game.

This is an amazing blade, weighing in at 85g, with Rubber 2x Dignics 05 2.1mm. 10/10 control. For me, I can place balls anywhere on the table. It is a stiff blade, and blocking is KING. I can return any ball just by blocking with this blade. It’s a little bouncy due to the Dignics rubbers.

#20September 2021

One of the best 7-ply blades on the market ever. Not expensive at USD 80 or so, it is better than most blades. Amazing touch, good power… it is almost the only blade that has made me think to stop playing with the acoustic. When you take it out of the box, it has a carpentry smell that I have never felt in another similar product; you can feel the craftsmanship that it has inside.

#22September 2020

The best hinoki wood frame around. Fast, light, precise in blocks, in control, in the cut ball. Good topspin with a good spin.

#23April 2020

I have been using this as my main blade. It is my first hinoki blade and definitely not the last. I also have two different carbon blades, Tibhar Fortino Performance and Tibhar Drinkhall Powerspin Carbon, and I do like both of them a lot, but I always come back to this one, especially if feeling insecure with my playing.

Build quality is typical Nittaku, 5/5.

The feeling of this blade is incredible. Not really a rocket launcher and it feels like it’s lacking the final gear, but still it is fast enough to close points. I’d rate it between off- and off.

Septear excels in topspin looping, blocking, and touch shots, but can do pretty much everything else. I prefer to stay near the table and mid-distance, attack asap with heavy topspin FH/BH, and keep the pressure on with punchy backhands. Suits my playing style well.

I have been using it with andro R47max on FH and Nittaku Fastarc G-1 2.0 on BH. The setup feels great but could benefit from r53/Rakza Z-style harder rubbers. I for sure will go for harder rubbers after I’ve used my current ones.

If you are purchasing this blade, DON’T pair it with soft rubbers. Pair it with harder rubbers at 45 degrees and over (Euro scale). Soft rubbers make the setup feel mushy and lacking in power & control.

Speed: 8.5 Feeling: 9.8.

Hi guys and girls,
This is an awesome blade. It’s 7 plys of Hinoki wood and it has an amazing amount of gears. So, hit it softly, you place the ball really short, but hit it hard and it shoots off the blade. I play with DHS Gold Arc 8 max thickness on both sides for a little more speed and spin, although it feels like max thickness decreases the feel of the blade.
Spin is good, but it makes you focus on your technique. If your technique is good, this blade will be amazing for you. If you’re still developing, this blade is all-round enough to help you improve. It is a real extension of your body instead of a ‘tool’.
Attackers will say it’s slow, but all-round players who block and wait for an attacking opening will really love this blade. Close to the table play is good with this blade. Further away, you have to hit pretty hard. Placement stays on point though.
That’s my take on the blade, hope it helps :).

#25April 2019

After trying out 5 blades, I think I found the one I like for my level (USATT around 1400). It is fast if you hit harder and has good control if you need to block. It is not super fast like my Viscaria blade, but you can win points with the right topspin technique. I like the dwell time, and I am able to produce a very good amount of spin. I recommend this for beginner to intermediate level players.

#26January 2019

I played with Stiga blades mostly. I like the feeling of a wooden blade. I wanted to try Hinoki, and it was good. It is not as fast as carbon or any blade with carbon. But if I hit it hard, it gave me a good hit. The loop was more spinny than a carbon blade. Most of all, it allowed me a lot of control than my previous Stradivarius. I love this blade.

#27January 2019

The blade is purely offensive, very fast, and excellent with high speed.

#28June 2018

It is between off- and off-. Good feeling and good placement.

#29November 2017

Amazing quality. Speed is closer to Off-. There is almost no vibration. But the control is great. I play with long pimples OX at the table. It allows for a decent chop-block, but the attack remains top-notch.

#30September 2017

First Impressions:
Awesome Racket assembly done by TT11; by far the best I’ve seen and experienced.

Playing Experience:
After 2 weeks of playing with Nittaku Septear + Tibhar MXP Red (1.9-2.0) + DHS Gold Arc 5 Black (2.0), I found that the handle of the Septear is uncomfortable and too thin for me. My hand is around 18 cm (7 inches) with fingers of around 8.5 cm (3.25 inches).

The feeling you get by playing with this blade is unbelievable. You will clearly feel where the ball impacts your blade. If your hands are smaller than mine, you will love this blade.

Thanks TT11 for the wonderful service.

#31March 2016

Great quality. It’s nice to hold in hand. Excellent control. Speed is at the level of OFF, or even OFF-. There is practically no vibration.

#32January 2025

Incredible build quality. The smell of the wood (cypress) itself is addictive!
Very consistent. Powerful enough especially for short distance play (I hit as hard, if not harder than players with carbon blades) to medium distance, but you can really feel the ball. The benefit vs carbon blades is that you are less likely to overshoot the table with the right technique. So, it is implied that you should have a reasonably advanced technique level to really enjoy this blade. But when you do, what a reward! It feels less soft and has less dwell time than the Acoustic, but it is much faster and responsive, so it is definitely my preference for an aggressive playing style, with top spin drives, power loops, active block, and killer pushes. It can be combined with Fastarc G1 for better loops/power loops, or with MX-P (with which I play) to increase the accuracy of your topspin drives/flat hits. Thank you, Nittaku team!

I am very pleased with the service of Tabletennis1! The blade is fantastic, it has a soul and power that probably everyone needs! Thank you Tabletennis1!

This blade is fit for me.
There are two things that disappoint me a bit - middle dwell and stiffness that are quite high.
I expected to feel a softer bounce off the ball because of kiso hinoki.
But on the other hand, I saw a very crisp feeling on touch and a wonderful smash…

#37November 2022

This blade does everything that you need from a 7-ply wooden blade. It has good control, an amazing feeling, and decent speed on and off the table.

The lack of speed compared to carbon blades is understandable, since it does not have any carbon layers. However, carbon layers’ speed comes at the cost of feeling. This blade oozes feeling and creates confidence in shots on and off the table. Better feeling allows players to swing harder while having the confidence that their shots will land.

7 plies make driving on both the forehand and backhand more effective than looping with 5-ply blades. This way of doing your stroke gives better feeling because of the direct contact that this blade requires.

Even though this blade has no carbon layers, it is very capable away from the table with good technique. Having the confidence to swing hard and have a good feeling that your ball will land is way more important than speed that comes from carbon.

Excellent blade. 10/10.

#38May 2022

Very good price.

#39October 2020

The best hinoki blade ever. Good control, precise backhand with excellent control. Lightweight blade.

#40September 2020

Great blade, definitely the best hinoki blade ever made. Good control, fast, and light. Not excellent in ball turn, but very effective in closing shots and exchanging balls. Good in service responses, also good in blocking. For this type of ball, it is still an excellent compromise.

#41February 2020

I liked that before Christmas I received a pretty good offer for this blade. It arrived without any problems and intact.

#42March 2019

Fantastiчне лезо, прекрасний контроль!

#43June 2018

Thanks to all the good reviewers. It’s true, this blade is truly awesome. An offensive blade that has lots of control. With Palio CJ8000 hardness 44 degrees max on FH and BH 1.0 mm Nittaku Wallest. Lightweight. Easy to flip. Comfortable handle. Having played with many offensive blades, this one shines.

#44June 2017

I like a pretty fast setup, and until now, all have been pretty low on the control side of things. With this blade, the edges and corners of the table are now something I can use. Previous blades found me playing the center of the table; those edges and corners were just something others could take advantage of.

I went from a Ma Lin Extra Offensive blade to The Septear; my game is more confident and those delicate touch shots just go where I tell them now. I didn’t give up any speed from my previous blade. This blade just works. Close to the table, mid-range and long, the ball just goes where you tell it too.

The only criticism that I could offer is that the blade is a bit larger than my previous, and I couldn’t re-use the rubber.

FH rubber - Butterfly Tenergy 80 BH rubber - Yasaka Rakza 7.
